CyCo - honestly, my reaction to this particular situation is only emblematic of my reaction to life in general at this point. I think that humans are moving away from the very foundational experience of physical life because of their fears, and they attempt to control the unknown through these increasingly adept technological 'diversions'.
In the end, I still think life can be iterated in very simple terms, but people don't like to confront what it is that lies at the end of the tunnel, so to speak.
We keep coming up with increasingly 'better' ways to do it neater, cleaner, quicker, faster - and without effort or fuss - and yet we're STILL left with the knowledge that life IS what it appears, and we have to live with it.
I'll stick to the upfront confrontation of what life entails - the negatives notwithstanding - and let others go about the business of indulging in 'alternative virtual realities' that ultimately DON'T negate the facts at hand.
^^ all THAT over a video game. LIGHTEN UP.
Isn't this board an "alternative virtual reality"?
Since bowling alleys are pretty much disappearing near me, guess I'll stick with the Wii.

Devil - all 'THAT' is some musings on life that were spurred on by the topic at hand - no more, no less. YOU lighten up.
MissP - yes, it is - which is why I really have only found comfort in taking the interactions off the board.
Girly - I know those types of things are diasppearing (I miss roller rinks!) but that's just another sign, to me, of moving in the wrong direction. Think WALL*E.
YWIW - obviously there are arguable benefits to it, as anything else, but that doesn't change my overall outlook on the phenomenon.
And I love you anyway!
It is not a replacement for things I would like to do. But, things like the Wii Fit are great when you have a 1/2 hour, and don't want to waste 20 minutes driving to a gym.
I am looking forward to my shoulder completely recovering, and then I can play real tennis again, for now, I have to live with the Wii version!
When you get down to it, isn't a gym a simulated experience, too? Simulated bike rides, simulated jogging, simulated skiing, simulated lifting (if you're like me and mostly avoid heavy free weights because of having no spotter).

For no particular reason, this is what popped into my head when I read Calvin's comment.
Well, there is a reason - it always makes me giggle
Looks like they are now out of stock again.
I love playing the Wii. If you are looking for what games to get for the system, here are a few suggestions:
Super Smash Bros. Brawl: Definately one of the, if not the highest rated Wii game that I know of right now. Plus I would get a used gamecube controller since this is the best way to play it (the creator of the game even said it himself.)
Tomb Raider Anniversary: This is a really fun game. Plus this has alot of interaction in the game where you can dust off artifacts, solve puzzles, and fight wild animals.
Zelda Twilight Princess: This here is a must have too. Beautiful graphics, tons of interaction, and very addicting.
Super Mario Galaxy: How can I forget this guy? Very fun game. Very much the same plot as Super Mario 64, except it takes place in space. Having to collect the stars and doing side missions will definately keep you busy for days on end!
Also the Wii can play gamecube games. My suggestions:
Pikmin
Harvest Moon: It's a Wonderful Life
The Sims
Monkeyball 2
Starfox
I'd add MarioKart Wii to the list. The online play supports 12 players and is really fun.
World of Goo on WiiWare is really great too. And I'm hearing really good things about the new Call of Duty.
Hey Erik I have a question.
I have been saving up on money to buy either a Xbox 360 or a PS3. Do you know which one I should get? I see you have Sackboy Knievel as your avatar and I hear that Little Big Planet is really, really fun.
Before Little Big Planet I would tell you I wasn't sure but I would say Little Big Planet alone makes the PS3 worth it. It is tons of fun and because you can create your own levels, and play other user-made levels online, it offers a ton of replay value.
There aren't that many Xbox exclusives anymore either...most big games that come out for the Xbox eventually come out for the PS3 as well.
Add Home (coming soon) Metal Gear Solid 4...and the fact that you get a Blu Ray Player...I would def say PS3 is the way to go.
Thank you for your opinion Erik!! Now I'm pretty sure I'll get a PS3 for the holidays!
No problem. Let me know if you get Little Big Planet :)

My mom has a Wii just sitting in her bedroom collecting dust. I'm guessing when my friend visits we might commandeer it for a while.
