oh duh! *smacks forehead*
Well, I haven't done anything "knightable," but if I had, and I were approached, then, yeah, why not? It would be an honor. I'd like to meet the Queen.
I have a friend who became an O.B.E., and he said they throw a hell of a lovely party.
"I'd like to meet the Queen."
I directed a command performance for Her Majesty at CHOGM in 1985. She came on stage after the show and I had the opportunity to meet her. It was a pretty cool evening.
pab, please explain how Canada is a member of the Commonwealth, yet Newfoundland is not, especially when Newfoundland IS part of Canada? I don't get it....
and, Nauru was declared a Special Member from 9 January 2006
nowhere on the Commonwealth website does it say anything aboutn Newfound being not part of the Commonwealth. It simply has ALL of Canada a a single part of the Commonwealth
http://www.thecommonwealth.org
and to answer cruels question, of course I would accept the honor
As a part of Canada it is but it was by itself before that. That is why it is listed as a former (full) member.
The Dominion of Newfoundland existed as a country from 1907 (before which it had the status of a British colony) to 1934. In 1934, Newfoundland voluntarily gave up self-government and reverted to direct control from London — one of the few countries that has ever voluntarily given up direct self-rule. In 1949 it joined Canada to become Canada's tenth province.
ok, but the way you listed it was quite confusing. I doubt more than a few people here, and our Canadian members knew it was ever a seperate country (I certainly didn't) so it should be noted such on the list so that it doesn't confuse people.
I figured somehow you were correct, you always are.

I would totally accept it! Even if I couldn't use the title, it would still be fun to say "Dame DGG" instead of just my name.
I'm British, I could totally be a Dame.
Uhhh, if it happened tomorrow, I would accept. I would be horrifically confused, and wondering if I should ask why they've chosen to bestow this honour on me or if I should keep my mouth shut so they don't take it away, and I'd rather it didn't get in the way of me going to see 'Hairspray', but I'd accept. However, in the future, I may be more politically aware. And things may be going on politically that I don't agree with. And if that happens when they want to knight me, then I will proudly turn it down.
It takes balls to say "I do not like the way this is going; therefore I publicly and firmly remove myself from it", and for most people it'd be much easier to say "well, I don't really like our new concentration camps for Polish immigrants (or some other extremity that hopefully will never happen!), but I'll have your knighthood". I admire the former VERY much. For instance, I LOVE how Alan Moore now refuses to have anything to do with films based on his works. My friends think he's stupid because he's passing up a shedload of money, but I truly admire his integrity. :3
