And Addy, I really don't care about baseball (unlike my family who are rabid Sox fans), but I tire of hearing about the Yankees so much every year. The difference between NY and every place else is the media fixation on sports. You don't get that anywhere else - not even Boston. When I go home for visits now and can discuss baseball/players with them, they're shocked - it's hard to explain to people outside of this area how you can't get away from it, no matter how hard you may try!

Last nights game was intense! With the police coming onto the field and everything...and who knew Mark Bellhorn could do something besides striking out? I must say even if the Sox loose tonight they put up a great fight made history so good for them!

If the Red Sox win I might be reduced to violence against my roommate. All autumn she looks at me weird for following baseball, and now she's suddenly the world's biggest Sox fan. Grr.

Well, it's down to this...tonight is do or die and I'm convinced the Yankees just sat back and let the Sox win a few in order to make more money for the owners and make the series more interesting.

The Red Sox can have the bloody World Series if they just stop whining. If I never have to hear about their idiot curse again, they can sweep the World Series for all I care. And if I never again have to deal with all those sickening bandwagon Sox fans who start cheering for the "underdog" every October just to look cool, I hope the Sox win every game by a margin of ten.

I don't like those kind of Yankee fans, either, Rath. But you try dealing with seemingly every person in your college mysteriously becoming a Sox fan overnight. Half of them barely get the concept of an at-bat, and it drives me crazy.

I have never once resorted to chanting "1918." I do make fun of Johnny Damon's haircut, but after I saw it tied up like a girl's last Wednesday, I feel obliged.

Plum, I have absolutely no problem with you making fun of someone's looks.

But how wonderful will it be for us non-interested people to NOT have to listen to the media screaming baseball and Yankees for the next few weeks? That's what my fingers are crossed for. I don't root for the Sox - I root against being constantly pummelled with baseball/Yankees.

Oh, and you think the media won't pummel you if the Red Sox go forward? If they win, you'll never hear the end of it. Though admittedly, in the long term it might work out. I imagine that the heads of 50% of Boston sportswriters will explode from the effort of coming up with another cliche to rely on when they work.

No. I live in NYC. Believe me, we won't hear much more about anything if this is the end of the Yankees. The media here only likes to gloat - they couldn't care less about the Series if the Yanks or Mets (ha) aren't participating.

They'd just spend the whole winter going on about all the inherent flaws in the team that they, in their omniscience, saw all along. And no doubt Steinbrenner will throw a rabid fit and feed Cashman to an alligator or something. That'll occupy a few headlines.

I just want to say that I am so thrilled for Johnny Damon. He was HUGE for us all season. A great leadoff man w/ over 100 runs scored, nearly 100 RBI, and 20 HR. He was due, and it's great so see him break out big like this...It would really make my day if Doug Mientkiewicz and Pokey Reese could come in and get a couple of hits!

Anyway, back to the game. I'm not foolish enough to think that this is even close to being over. Look at Game 1. We were behind by what, 7 or 8 runs, and we came right the hell back w/ a vengence and put pressure on the Yanks. I think it's only a matter of time before they start to make a push for it. I'm just hoping it's too little, too late.
