BoSox will win the series!

Two years in a row, the Yankees are at least partially foiled by the fact that one of their starters is a moron. Last year it was David "I don't work out" Wells, and this time it's that slayer of walls, Kevin Brown.

Liking the team doesn't mean I have to like all the players. *hugs Jorge*

What about Vasquez giving up two HRs? (I realize 3 on base for that GS were Brown's, but still)

Yeah, and gotta love Jorge for batting sans gloves, like my boy Doug Mientkiewicz. Scrappy boys!
But when did New Hampshire become--Such a backward wasteland of seatbelt hating crazies?...I mean, only 40 people actually live there. The others are just visitors who come for the tax-free liquor and three inches of novelty coastline. John Hodgeman on The Daily Show (1-30-07)

Ever since Sori and Clemens left, I've attached myself to Jorge. Because no one ever pays attention to him even though he's really an excellent player- a great hitting-catcher, one of the hardest-working at his position over the past few years, and defensively underrated. He's really improved at catching baserunners in the past couple of seasons. Also, because he has an adorable son he adores, huge ears, and no chin. :)

Frickin Francona...why on EARTH are you going to take Lowe out when he's been SO dominant. And if you're taking him out, why put in Martinez (which is what it looks like he's doing)??? Assuming we wrap this up in the next 2 1/2 innings, why would you put our Game 1 starter out on 2 days rest. Here's your chance Yanks. I have a sinking feeling that the door has just creaked open. I still have tremendous faith in my boys, but when crazy stuff like this happens, I can't help but second guess!

Did Lowe have a high pitch count? If they're going to the World Series, they don't want his arm to fall off. Or worse yet, Francona would hate to repeat Grady Little's mistake and keep his starter in too long.

"door has just creaked open." Just now? Really?

Yeah, I'd say it creaked open. Pedro, in a few mere moments has single handedly, given up two extra base hits, a run, and gotten the stadium SO into this game it's sick!...oh, two runs. I think I'm going to be ill!

Edited to say that Pedro didn't do this singlehandedly unless he demanded to be put in (for some sort of ego-filled retribution outing)...otherwise, it's Pedro and Francona. I've had ENOUGH close games! I seriously can't handle another one!

As I understand it, most of them don't chew tobacco anymore, but gum. Why all the spitting? Can you imagine if we all spit like that when we chewed gum? What a world THAT would be.

I'm remembering why I don't enjoy team sports. The negative chanting, stupid signs and costumes, and throwing things onto the field when fans disagree with umpires. Yeah, that and the spitting...yet I can't stop watching because I want to know if I'll be free from a Series this year!

See Rath, what sports need are more female fans. There wouldn't be nearly as much spitting then, I think. :)

Yeah, the players spit, the fans are crude, and the signs are stupid. But if you love theater, you have to understand the feeling of sitting in the middle of an excited crowd. Multiply that feeling by about 50 (since the Stadium seats 55,000) and you'll start to understand what makes being a Yankees fan so thrilling.

I'm sorry, Plum. Theater I can understand. Sports I don't get. Why does everyone care so much? I just don't get it...maybe if everyone who felt so strongly had a lot of money on the game, I'd understand a bit more. I truly don't get what's at stake for people.

Nothing. Just victory. You put yourself in pinstripes (or red hoisery, or whatever) for a few hours, and just let yourself into the game. You follow the players until you feel like you know them, you yell at the manager, you curse the other team, and you generally act like an idiot. And it's fun.

You can't just be told how to be a fan, I think. :) I think I have the baseball vs. democracy monologue from Take Me Out saved in my hard drive. Want it?

Well, they did half of what I would have done going into this bottom of the eighth. They put Pokey in for Bellhorn at second. I'd have thrown Kapler in for Manny in left. He's got much better range, a rocket of an arm, and he couldn't do much worse than Manny hitting. We shall see!

And there's Mayor Mike! Notice how he doesn't get anywhere near the camera time of Giuliani? Interesting. Perhaps he should dress in drag on SNL to get some attention.

Psst...that's because Mayor Mike's from Massachusetts. He's really a Red Sox fan. :)

His middle name is Trotman (got me???) Christopher Trotman Nixon. I've got my Nixon shirt on now! Go Trot!

At least his name isn't Coco Crisp. Or Albert Pujols. My friend and I used to fill out our All-Star ballots based on who had the weirdest names.

What's with Damon? He's got girly hair and manner of speech, yet full facial hair. Is he confused?

He's got really healthy looking hair, I'm jealous. Mine's gotten to be such a mess lately! And as for his kind of slow, meticulous speech...I don't think he's been quite the same after that collision last year in the Division Series in Oakland. I guess he's suffered from ridiculous migraines and short term memory loss ever since.

It may be healthy looking hair, but does he need to have the Mary Tyler Moore flip happening?
