you know, I've gone my whole life without knowing that the plural of anus is anii. *and* i watch House and Grey's Anatomy and I never learned it there either. What good is tv if not for teaching you stuff like this?

topic: I don't think I've seen a Dakota Fanning film since Uptown Girls (I didn't see War of the World because I don't support Tom Cruise, never saw Dreamer or The Cat in the Hat, etc.) but little Dakota Fanning in I Am Sam really was one of the more brilliant child performances I've seen.
I think she'll be one of the child actors who makes it, a la Ron Howard, Jodie Foster, etc. She seems to have a pretty good team of people looking out for her, I don't expect that her eventual E! True Hollywood Story will include committing armed robbery, having her parents steal all her money, etc.

I love Dakota, she's already fabulous.
12? I don't see the problem here. Are no 12 year olds capable of insight? Would it be different if she were 15 or 16? Sure, one changes a lot in those few years but age is not always a good indicator of the ability to make decisions. I think almost everyone here knows of someone at least in their mid twenties who is far less mature than a 12 year old like Dakota.

Good for her, defending the film and her mother. And I agree, it is NOT an issue to just be swept under the rug.

Crap like this is one of the reasons why I left the Catholic Church. Pretentious asses like Bill Donohue should mind their own damn business and let a smart young lady like Dakota make up her own mind.

I stayed away from that movie for so long--I dunno why--but it is SO sweet and romantic. I think it sometimes upsets me to se the poor lil lovelorn gay boy who can't get a break--hits too close to home.

MLE, I agree that Dakota is a very smart girl and a good actress. She also seems to have good parents who are very involved in guiding her career. I don't think she would have done the role if they didn't think she could handle it.

I think she has enough acting experience to understand the difference between real life and movie-making, but obviously that is Dakota, not a random 12 yr old making a movie.

I think Dakota is the most talented child actor we've had on screen since Haley Joel Osment. And she seems incredibly bright and aware of the business and her craft, every time I've seen her interviewed.

Her performance in "Man on Fire" with Denzel Washington was remarkable.

Whether or not she continues in the business will come down to one (sad, pathetic) thing...

...her looks.

If she morphs into an "unphotogenic" teen or adult, her promising career will be over.

Time will tell. And Hollywood is not kind.

Eh, even if she isn't "gorgeous" the indies will still take her. She also has the chops to be a character actress. Either way I wouldn't worry too much.

The thing that ticks me off most about our society: we measure age in years, rather than by actual maturity.

I say, good for Dakota for standing by a character she was passionate about playing. She also possesses and IQ fully twice the size of Donahue's. Seriously, this girl has my respect because she is talented, driven, and incredibly smart. It's irrelevant how many years she's been on this planet.

Ageism is wrong! Who's with me?
