re: You have IT or you DONT.

You go, FTLOL... I just got back from my first ever professional auditions. It was fun, and what's the worse that can happen?

i think that it is possible for people to learn how to sing...sure they won't be amazing all the time, but voice lessons couldn't hurt

Hmm...my opinion: I think vocal teachers are great and you can really learn alot from them. BUT: i think, (and I see this alot at my highschool) people think automatically that taking voice lessons will make you wonderful automatically. This is where things get ugly.
I know a girl who spends 75 bucks a week on vocal lessons and 100 bucks a week on acting lessons...and she still is awful. I take voice lessons once a week for half an hour and I still get better parts than her.
Is it talent? Partly. But I also have a much better attitude and I 'know my way around the stage'. I think making it big factors in many other things besides jsut raw talent. You have to be dedicated. Showing up for class once or twice a week will not enable you to become a star all of the sudden.
Was that a fat joke?

Cathyhyatt, why should we take anything you say seriously if you don't even take it serously enough to bother writing it out in gramatically correct sentences? If you're not going to deign to make yourself understood, I don't see why anyone should take the trouble to parse your posts. Or take your opinions to heart.

re: You have IT or you DONT.

Cathy, I think the "it" factor and singing talent are two completely different things. I think you can learn how to sing...some people can. It doesn't depend so much on your ability before you had lessons as much as how well you can learn such a thing...and you'll never know until you try. Also, some people just grow into their voices. I remember Julia Murney talking about how she was a bad singer when she was younger. Now look at her.

The "it" factor, on the other hand...I'm not sure one can learn that. And if it can be learned, no teacher in the world could teach it to you. I have seen plenty of fantastic singers and good actors or actresses who just don't have "it." That doesn't mean they should give up. Someone in this world might find something very endearing about their performance.

And some of them would live their lives knowing they tried rather than live their lives thinking only of what could have been.

Anyway...I don't get what you're so bitter about. You sound as if you are one of those who dreamed about being a singer or actress, but gave up on it because you didn't believe in yourself so now you resent anyone who goes for it.

re: You have IT or you DONT.

you only get out of things what you put into them. if you have a natural base and you are committed to your training, you can grow and become very good. if you just think that paying the money for vocal/acting lessons is going to make you an incredible performer, you have another thing coming.

All I know is,

This person's GOT IT, and I'm spreading it around.

re: You have IT or you DONT.

Not everyone has "it" right away, if they were how owuld shoe many shy people be actors? You either have it inside or you don't. Lessons and practice bring it out.
