Not that I disagree with their choice to do that, but I'm curious to know how the first amendment plays into this. Does youtube legally have the right to control the views expressed on their website? I would assume so, yes? Would it be different if he expressed his opinions in a civilized manor without the homophobic language?

Youtube is a privately owned company. They have rules and guidelines that all must follow. There is a fine line where one's opinion crosses into hate speech. I am sure they did not make this decision lightly.

I don't know how many times this has to be repeated. Private companies have the right to censor whatever they deem inappropriate. The first amendment protects you from the Government.
