90# on your telephone
I dialed '0' and asked the operator who confirmed that this was correct so please pass it on.
PASS ON TO EVERYONE YOU KNOW
I received a telephone call last evening from an individual identifying himself as an AT&T Service technician (could also be TELUS) who was conducting a test on the telephone lines. He stated that to complete the test I should touch nine (9), zero (0), the pound sign (#), and then hang up. Luckily, I was suspicious and refused. Upon contacting the telephone company, I was informed that by pushing 90#, you give the requesting individual full access to your telephone line, which enables them to place long distance calls billed to your home phone number. I was further informed that this scam has been originating from many local jails/prisons DO NOT press 90# for ANYONE. The GTE Security Department requested that I share this information with EVERYONE I KNOW.
After checking with Verizon they said it was true, so do not dial 90# for anyone!!!!!
PLEASE HIT THAT FORWARD BUTTON AND PASS THIS ON TO EVERYONE YOU KNOW
Fr om ol' Wyomin' where the wind blows free; (and the air is clear)
You yourself dialed the operator, Liam? I tend to be wary of these things.
no my mom's friend sent this to me.
why would you want to push 90# anyway?--just don't.

Where's the request for your routing number, though? I can't handle it when things change!!!

Slightly off topic, but I just have to say that I love snopes.com
Urban ledgends in general fancinate me, so could lose hours browsing around there,
It's also always the first place I check when I get another one of those 'pass this to all the women you know - beware: clever serial killer' emails.
MLE: I love reading about the origins of urban legends, as well. Have you read the books of Jan Harold Brunvand? He's written many books on the subject. Very fascinating stuff!
Brunvard is good. I have The Baby Train and one of his other books. I love urban legends...
I love Snopes, too. I think the Disney ones are absolutely fascinating.
Snopes is awesome.
and it's
"an email I got (received) today"....not "a" email.....just as an fyi
SM2 - No, I haven't. But thanks for the name, I just looked it up on my school library website and a bunch of books came up. I think I might pick one up tomorrow since I'll have a chance to actually read for fun over Thanksgiving break! :)
I think the origins of urban legends are the most fascinating part about them.
MLE: You're very welcome!
I think I've read all of his books -- I've exhausted the supply. My favorite is TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE: THE COLOSSAL BOOK OF URBAN LEGENDS. It's practically a tome.
Happy reading!
BTW: Does anyone know if TLC still airs MOSTLY TRUE STORIES: URBAN LEGENDS REVEALED? I loved that show!
