I think you defined it perfectly. Idina was screaming instead of singing. Your question only has one asnwer: Idina Menzel. No other Elphaba screams at the end, they sing.
Please no one else respond to this thread. Just let it die!

Eden did scream it.
I think screaming the last note(s) works, since she's a witch and she's yelling her Elphie War Cry, as I like to call it. But from a performer's perspective, I do not advocate it as it can take a toll on the voice.
I love Shoshana Bean's little riff at the end. I get chills.

Posted: 5/24/05 at 10:25pmNo, it's definitely supposed to be sung. It's notated as an eigth note Db pick-up, to 4 sixteenth notes (F, Eb, Db, Eb) and then the held Db.

Posted: 5/24/05 at 10:29pmDoes anyone else remember her performance at the Tonys? *shudder* Don't get me wrong, she sounds great in the studio, but...
#11re: ahhhhh wicked
Posted: 5/24/05 at 10:33pmtony's were depressing.still love her though. can't blame her for that one show.

Posted: 5/24/05 at 10:33pmI love shoshana riffs the best, but I think she's too pretty for the moment in the story....i think eden's "war cries" sound most accurate as to how they SHOULD sound, imo.

Posted: 5/25/05 at 3:18pmall i have to say is you can't blame idina for the tonys...she was probably trying to hard as to impress all the other actors or something...but when i saw her it sounded exactly like the cd, so idk...each time i have heard a live recording the end has sucked, but when i saw it it was amazing...

Jan 2 live audio (and I was there) sounded awesome.
I was at the Tony's and it was a lot worse than on TV. But I love her ne'ertheless.
I think we know who my favorite is!
