breakups

Recently my mother told me about this book. Two girls decided to write a play chronicling breakups they had gone through. They were met with stories submitted by tons of women about their breakups, and decided to put them all into a book.
The stories show that though EVERYONE goes through it, it isn't easy for anyone to deal with. However, everyone DOES get through it, and has different ways of coping. The bonus is the stories include a follow up, and show how much better off the women are in their lives now because that breakup occured.

SO
Good people of BWW, share your breakup stories! Try to find the positive side (even if you haven't been able to see the positive yet, think hard and maybe it'll come to you!). Misery loves company but misery also wants to know that people DO get through this alive!
Whether you're 16 and heartbroken over your first crush, or 40 and divorced three times, post 'em all.
Ready....set.....go!

re: breakups

Breaking up is hard to do.
Now I know...I know that this is true.
You said that this is the end.
Instead of breaking up, I wish that we were making up again.

re: breakups

You know, its funny: I couldn't stand my last boyfriend and decided to break up with him after having gone out for four days, yet *I* was the emotional wreck during "the talk." Don't get me wrong, I'm glad I did it, but why was I the one to lose it? I didn't like him all that much!

In grade 8, I dumped my first boyfriend because he wouldn't kiss me. It's not like he refused or anything, he just never did. And I was too shy to make the first move. re: breakups

re: breakups

I have a really entertaining break-up story from today, but it requires some background.

Okay, so i'm in Africa flying home, and i'm in the Nairobi airport. So you shop in this one area and then to go to your gate, you go through security. so i'm going through security and my friend behind me. I'm picking up my stuff after the x-ray machine and I start talking to the guy that's working there, just polite chit chat or whatever. Then they stop my friend and the lady behind her because they both have tweezers. So I continue talking to this guy while Erin is trying to find her tweezers. The guy asks me for my e-mail address, and I give it to him, because really, there's no harm in it, it's not like I'll ever see him, even if we do e-mail. So then he tells my friend she can keep her tweezers (since she's with me) but he makes the other lady give them back.

Then I get an e-mail from him the other day:
Halloh Jessica.I hope u enjoyed your flight safely back to America .too i hope u are fine.JESSICA U ARE HUMBLE ,KIND AND EVER SMILLING GIRL.Iappreciate it thats y i admire u. may God bless u , say hey to your sister i hope she is and your familly at large. ITS ME SECURITY Personel we met at jki airport in Kenya. Bye ihope to hear from u soon.JUMA RAMA

So I write back being polite. Oh, it was good to hear from you, [my friend]'s not really my sister, just a friend, I'm back at school. It's pretty short, just being friendly. So the next day I get this e-mail from him:
Hallo jessica , again its juma , thank God for your cooperation i have received your email .But jessica if this message is going to interfear u in one one way or the other.U know what J the very day i set eyes on u at the airport i fell in love with u ,but i tried to hide my feelings .But so far so good things are not running since that day when this affear towards u developed. Please Jessica i humble urge u to accompany me in this field.J I know this is going to be difficult but strain your self and give me that chance.J swear to the almight father that i LOVE u with my whole weak heart,Jam so confussed plase hope your heart for me so u can be my VIP or if ican make it clear to be my miss right.Byee for now i wish u good lucky in your studies and may god help u.Ihope to hear from u soon so that u can make me be ammong the luck men in this world who have found new and trusted lovers.Yours Juma

Yeah, okay, so it's not that strange for being in Africa, but you know, it weirded me out. So I had to "break up" with him today. My e-mail is below:
Juma~
While the things you said in your e-mail were very flattering and I think you are very kind, I think there has been a misunderstanding. I have a boyfriend and we are engaged and we will be married in three months. I think you are very nice, but I am in love with my fiancé and will soon be married.
~Jessica

(none of which is actually true, of course)
Anyway, that was my "break-up" story

re: breakups

Jess, that is so random!! :)

I'm the worst break upper in the history of the world. I will stay with someone way too long because I don't want to hurt their feelings. :/

I actually broke up with a boy in the ninth grade by writing him a letter. Not just a little letter though, a letter that was longer than War and Peace! It was all "Oh, you're a great person and you're so funny and blah, blah, blah" and on the last page I was like, "oh, I want to break up. Kthanx." re: breakups

re: breakups

Well, I had a crush on an amazing amazing woman, it got a bit out of hand, and we both had our issues (although we were never officially together, there was something there and it was mutual), and I had to stop myself from letting it get out of hand too much because we're a bit too screwed up for each other. And, she has some major issues that she must work out and when she works them out, I'll be there for her. I love her so much that I'd rather see her work out her own issues, than have me because I know I'll just make the situation worse. That's my recent heartbreak.

re: breakups

Jess, what is it with the foreigners?
I worked as a front desk clerk at a hotel and there was this Mexican guy staying there for a while. he was really upset when he left cuz he would miss seeing me so I gave him my email to shut him up. He kept emailing me these love poems in Spanish so of course I couldn't read them. One time he got a translator and wrote one in English, asking me when I was coming to Mexico to meet his family!!! AH!
I just blocked his email adress.

re: breakups

Okay well it's not recent. I got dumped by my boyfriend. We'd only been going out for two weeks. On our last date we went to a coffee shop near school on the day before Thanksgiving. We were sitting there and it was silent for awhile. There was no one in the coffee shop except the two of us and the cashier. All of the sudden he jumps up from his seat and tries to kiss me, which I honestly wouldn't have minded except for the fact it was the first kiss we had and our last. Except the kiss turned into a french kiss which wasn't what I was expecting and I'll spare the details. Nonetheless I kind of started laughing because the situation had been funny. I thought we were cool. Apparently not. So on Thanksgiving he calls me up ten minutes before dinner and says "I don't think it's going to work out" and I said "fine". I hung up and went into the kitchen. I burst into tears my parents asked me questions and explained everything. So we were broken up. I cried for only two days and realized that I was better off without him.

The upside of the break up is that now I am with a better guy who I like even more.

re: breakups

I dont know that any of these are interesting... but they're definitely messed up and the most recent of my breakup stories...

I'll only use initials of the guys.

E.C. ~ I worked with him about 3 years ago at a local bank. I was the receptionist and he was in the lending department. When I first started there he would barely talk to me and when he did he was always nervous and fidgety. He wasn't the type of guy I'd normally look twice at, but all my co-workers kept trying to convince me that he was interested, a good guy and I should give him a shot. He and I got to talking and I really started to like him. We dated for about 3 months and then I get a 'confession' of sorts from one of my co-workers. She remembers that he has a girlfriend who was away at school... she met the gf at the last Christmas party. She's assuming he's dumped her since he's dating me, but I might want to bring it up just to be on the safe side. I brought it up and it turned out that I was just a filler for the time when she was at school. Bastard. He got the boot.

S.J. ~ This is a convoluted one... Him and his father were customers of mine at aforementioned bank (I moved from receptionist to teller in the time I was there)... his father was having an affair with a friend of mine who also worked at the bank. Anyway, so SJ and I start dating.... he was posessive, clingy, needy.. always picked a fight with me when any of my male friends called. And in the bed department..... he was zero. Worse than Roxie's description of Amos in Chicago..... god blessed SJ well -- but forgot to show him how to use his equiptment.

J.L ~ He was an ass. Had a wife, 4 kids (by two different women) and two other girlfriends in addition to me. 'Nuff said.

L.M. ~ He's a sweetheart. I love this man more than I have words to describe and I'm sure it would make some of you all gag to hear about it anyway. We have our reasons why we go back and forth... I dont know that I count him as a breakup persay; we go out, then we dont, he dates someone else, I date someone else and then we come back looking for each other... the cycle just goes round and round like that for the past 3 years.

All other breakups happened too long ago for me to remember... wish they were more interesting stories! Actually, the SJ story would be more interesting if I didnt have to keep this G-Rated re: breakups

re: breakups

Wanna hear the one about the guy who decides to have a mid-life crisis and quit his job and have an affair after 16 years in a committed relationship?

Oh, and I find out about it the day I'm planning my Aunt's funeral?

re: breakups

Addy, you have over a decade more on me with mine (3 years) but I'm right there with you.
Actually, the first time we ever talked about breaking up (briefly about two years ago, should have been my first warning sign!) was also the day I found out I had to plan my aunt's funeral. It was also during my OAC exams.
The time we actually broke up was during my first year university final exams.
Then we got back togehter and now he does it to me again, he brings it up on the day we celebrated our anniversary, talked about it more on our actual anniversary, waited until i got in a car crash on valentine's day, then brought it up again yesterday. Gotta love how he drags things out too.
Impeccable sense of timing!

re: breakups

A few years ago, after I had been with a woman for 2 years, come Valentine's Day I got her some VERY expensive earrings that I knew she'd love. I couldn't wait to give them to her. She called me and asked me to come to her office, so I did...earrings in tow...

She proceeds to tell me that she's met someone else - and not only that, she'd been LOOKING to meet someone else for a while!
