cd choices

im looking to buy a new cd but i need opinions
Urinetown
The Last 5 years
Batboy
The Wild Party (lippa)

any suggestions for other cds are fine too
no opera or anything classical and i would love if it were more of something along the lines of wicked, rent, q, TTB. Pretty much something more upbeat

tell me which of those on top you think i should get

re: cd choices

The Last 5 Years

LaChiusa's Wild Party is about 50 times better than Lippa's.

re: cd choices

Sondheim? wait...you said upbeat?

nvm :-P

re: cd choices

The lAst Five Years.
The Wild Party

I don't know Batboy, but Urinetown sounds like something you don't want.
"Do you know what pledge time is, Andrew"? said the PBS Executive. "Yes", Lloyd Webber replied. "My 50th birthday special must be one program that gets done a lot." "No", mused the man from PBS heedlessy. "Not so much. Our Stephen Sondheim Carnegie Hall concert. That's a big one." Spoons, forks and knives seemed suddenly to suspend their motion in horror, all around the table.

re: cd choices

Both Urinetown and Bat Boy are very very good. You have to be in the mood for something a little unusual though

re: cd choices

I'd say Last 5 Years. It's a great recording.

If you want something really upbeat, check into "Zanna, Don't!" if you don't have it already.

Or, from the list you posted, definitely go with L5Y.

LIPPA'S WILD PARTY. HANDS DOWN.

re: cd choices

L5Y. Please don't just get the cd for one person.

re: cd choices

the last 5 years is REALLY awesome!! i just got it and i love it!!

for some reason, it's really relaxing. maybe it's the absence of drums...not that i don't like percussion...it's just that it's relaxing without it.

but i also really like Norbert Leo Butz and Sherie Renee Scott, so maybe that's why i like it.

anyway, i'd get that one...even though i do also enjoy Zanna

re: cd choices

L5Y, The Wild Party (Lippa), or AIDA!!!

...I say go with Aida...it kinda has the same story structure as wicked, and it has beautiful music.
awkward.

re: cd choices

I say the last five years, hair or little shop of horrors. :)
"At the opening night party, they had clowns on stilts, jugglers, a chocolate fountain, popcorn, hot dogs. [My son] looked at me like I had been holding back. Like, 'This is what you do?' I had to tell him, 'No, no, darling. Opening nights don't usually look like this.' It's usually a dark bar with a bottle of vodka." ?Chitty Chitty Bang Bang's Jan Maxwell plus i proudly share the title of the shortest member over the age of 10 with wickedrentq!

re: cd choices

L5Y, based on your critera.
There's always room for pathos - and jazz hands.

re: cd choices

I would definetely go for the Lippa version!! The Lachousa version is kinda boring, and pretty weird. And there's nothing wrong with buying a CD for one performer! You should know Idina only has two major songs, but you will also ADORE Julia Murney =) Enjoy!!

re: cd choices

zippyjen i already have little shop of horrors and i love it! now im deciding between The Wild Party (Lippa) and L5Y. not to brag but i can afford both now so i might go with both but i would prefer not to and keep some extra money for things i need more. so i narrowed it to what i said above.

also would i enjoy spamalot i know its not out yet but im just wondering
