crocs - comfortable must-have or fashion faux-pas?

I have foot problems too, and I hear those crocs are very comfortable. I'm afraid to get a pair because if they ARE really comfy, I might be tempted to wear them all the time, even out in public!!
While we're on the subject, I may be in the minority, but I can't stand the whole trend of wearing beach flip flops in the city. I know every single person does it, but I think it's ridiculous. Talk about having problems later on in life! Those are practically not shoes at all! Rant over. My friends even wear them.

Posted: 4/27/07 at 11:21amI love Flip Flops, yes...I'll wear them all the time, but I also trade them off. As long as your nails are clean, no issue.

I'm about five minutes from the beach in FL so flip flops are your basic shoe around here. I think I own maybe two pairs of sneakers and then flip flops in every color you can imagine.
Now, Crocs? UGLY! The only acceptable use for them in my opinion would be doing yard work or gardening.

Crocs are hideous, and I kind of refuse to believe that people who wear them are unable to find comfortable shoes that aren't eyesores. Notable exceptions being use for gardening or in the shower.
They're cute on kids, but that's because they look exactly like the plastic (rubber? whatever) sandals kids have been wearing since I was a kid. The mistake was in making them adult-sized.

So you have a pair?
But seriously, these sandals are the worst. I don't understand why anyone in their right mind would purchase them and wear them in public. Horrid.

Posted: 4/27/07 at 2:25pmYes. Those are the ones I was talking about. Hideous.

No offense to anyone here that owns these, but I hate them. HATE.

Posted: 4/27/07 at 2:36pmoy the tevas and the birkenstocks are both hideous! Also, the birkenstocks are too kumbaya for me anyway, no matter how comfortable.

Posted: 4/27/07 at 6:09pmI wear crocs when I clean or work outside in the yard...never wore them at the beach (I can see how they'd be good there too). I love them bc they're super comfortable & super easy to clean. Other than that, they don't see the light of day. I wouldn't advocate them for public appearances.

Posted: 4/28/07 at 2:44amCrocs are heinous except on little kids.
re: crocs - comfortable must-have or fashion faux-pas?#65

Jess, that cracks me up!!
I saw the same thing this morning. It wasn't as noticeable because the guy was wearing black jeans with black crocs.

Posted: 4/30/07 at 11:39amWell some people like them....and if he was hot, he would not be wearing them in bed anyway.

Posted: 4/30/07 at 12:32pmMy friend wears his bright green ones in public. Someone asked him how much he paid and it was about 40 dollars or something ridiculous for those!

Flip-flops: Ok for the shower or the beach. Anywhere else is gross.
Crocs: Cute on kids. Horrifying on adults. I'm sure there are other sandals that are comfortable that don't look like they were made by Fisher Price.
My personal pick: Keen. Comfortable, practical, well-made, and not bad-looking at all.

Posted: 4/30/07 at 2:09pmMy Rabbi wore a pair of white Crocs on Yom Kippur. Usually she wears white sneakers. Apparently we are not supposed to wear leather and must wear white. I think she was pushing it. Although she said they were very comfiortable for standing so many hours to lead services.
