THis week it decided to snow like hell in the seattle area, where we are lucky to get an accumulative inch a year, and we are missing 2 days of school, on HELL WEEK for A midsummer's night dream. 2 rehersals gone, we open friday, I hate snow
anyone else have these kind of horrible moments?
Lets just hope that we won't haver to cancel a performance and still do good!
Our opening night of Peter Pan last year was horrible, our curtain broke, everything was off, and a techie got caught onstage trying to change something
Please someone tell me that they have had this kind of experiance and it ended up ok

That happened to me my freshman year of highschool.
We got a huge ass blizzard the week before my school opened, on the first day of tech week. And it continued to snow for the next few days. Everyone was freaking out about what was going to happen, since we couldn't have rehearsals.
Eventually, it wound up that school was cancelled on the date that our dress rehearsal was supposed to be, and my directors had no choice but to postpone the show. We had to wait three more weeks until we were able to open, since the next two weekends were the other high schools in my town's shows, and obviously we couldn't intrude on thier dates.
It worked out to our benefit since those extra three weeks allowed us to perfect the show, and ended up doing an amazing job. :)

Holla!! (that is the last time I will ever say that)...
Same exact problem as yours!! Our show opens on sunday, and we have had exactly 1 tech rehearsal, when really this whole week is supposed to be tech. It's bad. I hate this snow. No voice lessons (with a college audition on sunday), no nothing. I'm getting cabin fever.

Posted: 11/29/06 at 8:07pmLet's just say that I was in Midsummer last night for school, and it was the first time we had ever had a full run-through. It went fine. You'll be okay for sure if we can pull off our first run-through as our opening night.

Basically every show I've ever been in, it's been terrible until like, a day or two before opening, sometimes not even until opening. And it always turns out fine. I have faith that your performance will go well.
You're from Seattle? woooo. What theatre/school is the show through?

How about not having Anne show up for The Diary of Anne Frank. It was our only performance.
I, Mrs. Frank, was pissed.
Not too many snowed out rehearsals though, luckily.

Posted: 11/30/06 at 7:41pmFor my Odyssey of the Mind competitions, it was never truly a competition day unless something like that happened. We would always get tons of snow the night before regional and state competitions. Luckily, world competition was usually better weather.

Last year we did 42nd Street,
3 of the leads got mono about 3 weeks before the show.
re: god hates me#19
Posted: 12/1/06 at 1:27amWe did Beauty and the Beast last year, and our Belle had mono up until tech rehearsals. We also did 42nd Street a couple years ago and our preview performance was absolutely horrific, but all the shows went extremely well. Things usually work out.

"pain adores me
god ignores me.."
.....don't worry about it. I've worked with a theatre company before where it is actually expected that they will not get through a show before opening night. Something about the magic of opening night just brings everything into completion. And as long as you did your best work, that's the only thing that you can control...

And, I actually nailled my litterally 30 sec quick chanmge where I had to go from a fairy to hermia's mother, boo yeah!
aND WE haven't even rehersed in the last 9 days because of snow.... amazing...

How about having a holiday concert in the beginning of January?
Our concert last eyar was supposed to be a few days before Christmas, and then the NYC Transit strike happened. My school postponed the concert until the 2nd week of January. Lovely time for Christmas and Chanukah music. Also, we had gone 2 weeks without rehearsal (the band and chorus) because of holiday break.

Two things:
1) The Seattle snow days were amazing. We got 2 1/2 days off in the city and that NEVER happens (happens infrequently in the 'burbs but never in the actual city limits - something having to do with the convergence zone).
2) Roosevelt represent!
