I do believe that TV hasn't abandoned themes, but has just moved into an instrumental phase, and we're not accustomed to it yet. If you thought about it, you could easily pick out the Grey's, Desperate, Ugly Betty, House, American Idol, Lost, and Friday Night Lights themes, among others.

Joan of ark with the lord to guide her -
she was a sister who really cooked!
Isadora was the first bra burner -

And when our country was falling apart
Betsy Ross got it all sewed up...
and then there's Maude!
I think you missed a line cheezedoodle, but Lawdy, you took me back.

"And they all got to wear those fun French maid costumes"
And don't forget the great Marian Mercer making a couple of appearances.

Yes I did - lol - fixed it though. You know Maude season 1 comes out on dvd next month I think.
Marian Mercer! Never a weak performance...brings to mind the ever-present Holland Taylor, who is also SUPER fancy.
Marian also played Stan's cousin Magda on GG.
Some of mine are

There’s no place like home.
With your family around you you’re never alone.
When ya know that your loved you don’t need to roam.
Cause there’s no place like home.
Time’s are changing everyday
We won’t get by with the same old ways
No-oooo pulling together will make it right
With help from our friends I know we can get it right.
Cause there’s no place like home.
With your family around you you’re never alone.
When you know that your loved you don’t need to roam.
Cause there ain’t no place like . . . Better believe it . . .
I said, there's no place like home,
I mean no place, child!

Recently, House and Grey's Anatomy have done away with thir theme music, or cut it to literally a measure or two.
I enjoy the OFFICE theme.
"Thank You For Being a Friend" was a pop song by Andrew Gold first (Marni Nixon & Ernest Gold's son!), then they chose it for the Golden Girls theme after that.
It's like saying, "How about the theme to The Wonder Years?"

Are You Being Served
Eastenders

There were all those great instrumental themes for 80's shows like ST. ELSEWHERE, HILL STREET BLUES, and in the 90's - NORTHERN EXPOSURE.
The late departed EVERWOOD had nice theme music.
Are You Being Served has probably the worst theme music ever written in the history of ever... for anything... ever.
But it's a damn funny show.
GOD, that "music." Oy!

I actually really DO miss tv themesongs.
I'm a '90s girl, so thinking back to the good old days of TGIF (I know, I know, to adults they were probably silly shows, but it was my childhood and I loved them):
Full House
Step By Step
Family Matters
they all had SUCH amazing themesongs! I always get the Full House one stuck in my head and then get in the mood to watch it again haha
and... actually, as much as the show got SO ridiculous in the end, 7th Heaven. REALLY pretty themesong.

For you cheeezedoodle from Are You Being Served?
"Perfumerie..., and leather goods,
material soft-furnishing, restaurant, and ...
Going up!"
"...Gents ready-made suits,
Shirts, socks, ties, slacks, underwear, and jeans
Going up!"
I also love:
You take the good,
You take the bad,
You 'em both
And there you have
The facts of life, the facts of life
There's a time you gotta go and show
You're growing now
You know about
The facts of life
The facts of life
When the world never seems
To be livin' up to your dreams
It's time you gotta figure out
The facts of life are all about you
Yoooouuu
It takes alot to get it right
When you're learnin' the facts of life
Learnin' the facts of life (Learnin' the facts of life)
Learnin' the facts of life
Learnin' the facts of life!!
What ABout Golden Girls?
Thank you! haha, I was definitely about to say that. Possibly the BEST tv theme song EVER :)

From Growing Pains, wriiten and sung by Alan Thicke, I believe:
"As long as we got each other
We've got the world spinning right in our hands
Baby, you and me
We gotta be
The luckiest dreamers
That's ever been dreamin'
As long as we keep on livin'
We can take anything that comes our way
Baby, rain or shine
All the time
We've got each other
Sharin' the laughter and love"

EastEnders has a great theme. I always like how at the end of the show, just when they get to the cliffhanger, the drums start.
This is the theme to Gary's show.
The theme to Garry's show.
Garry called me up and asked
Would I write his theme song?
I'm almost half-way finished,
How do you like it so far?
How do you like the theme to Garry's show?
This is the theme to Garry's show.
The opening theme to Garry's show.
This is the music that you hear
As you watch the credits.
We're almost at the part
Where I will start to whistle
Then we'll watch "It's Garry Shandling's Show"
(whistle whistle whistle whistle)
(whistle whistle whistle whistle)
Now it's time for Garry Shandling's Show.
I think the last good one with lyrics was "Still Standing." I actually really liked that show's theme.
I like Grey's Anatomy's and Desperate housewive's.
