I'd say Oz too. Almost every sitcome I've seen makes at LEAST one reference to it at some point.
The Baum Bugle lists all the Oz references on TV. And the list is ALWAYS long.

It has to be the Wizard of Oz. Hell, even RENT has two.
For a southern girl, Gone with the Wind and Steel Magnolias.

Posted: 1/15/06 at 1:01amGood question. I wonder if the answer can be found anywhere, like in an almanac? Anyway, I think Oz might be the one. Although, "Frankly, Scarlett, I don't give a damn" is spoken pretty often.

Oz (the "rainbow" one, not the "don't-drop-the-soap one)
The Godfather
Gone with the Wind
Star Wars
Does A Christmas Carol count? If so, I'd also add that one.
"The man who wishes he had written Phantom of the Opera!" - SueleenGay

How about CASABLANCA? How often do you hear references to "Here's lookin' at you, kid", "We'll always have Paris" or "This could be the start of a beautiful friendship" or "Play it, Sam" or "Of all the gin joints in all the world, why did she have to walk into mine?" et cetera, et cetera.
And of recent movies? JERRY McGUIRE. "Show me the money", "You had me at hello", and "You complete me" are constanly being parodied on sitcomes, etc.

what gets referenced from citizen kane?
ive heard field of dreams mentioned a few times ("if you build it, he will come)
the show Get Smart used to use scenarios from a lot of famous old movies. i remember an episode that took place in casablanca. and then another one that was similar to the treasure of the sierra madre. one made fun of goldfinger, one makes fun of Marlon Brando's film The Wild One, one mocks bonnie and clyde, the avengers, the maltese falcon, rear window, The Great Escape and Stalag 17. there are so many more where the titles are parodies (including a spy, spy birdie).
