pastor reiterates wish for President Obama's death

The scraps of respect for religion I have left is increasingly evaporating.
Sure, he is just a hate-filled crazy and spoils it for the majority...but it's not like you get this kind of behaviour from an athiest wishing death upon the Pope.

Charming fellow, he is. I bet he's tons of fun to play golf with.

He admits to praying for Obama's death. If one believes in the power of prayer, as those on the far right do, wouldn't that constitute treason?

I was just about to say, isn't that treason?

No even close to treason. Also, this country protects his right to pray for whatever he wishes.

JohnBoy--would you feel the same way if it were Julie Andrews he was wishing would get brain cancer and die?

What do you mean, "feel the same way"?? How do I feel? I was just stating a fact. If he were praying for Julie Andrews to have brain cancer, it would not be treason, and his right to do so would be protected. Nothing would change in my answer.

What I want to know is why aren't other Pastors speaking out against this idiot? Where is Franklin Grahm? Where is Pat Robertson? Where is Rick Warren? How can anyone hold the title of pastor and then preach hate? I have wondered this for years going back to the first time I had ever heard of Fred Phelps.Religious leaders need to grow a pair and speak out against this sort of hate. This is why people have turned against the church. This is why people no longer consider themselves religious. Teh right wing will claim it's because of the Democrats, not allowing school prayer, and the ACLU and liberals in general. No, it's because of these hatemongers who disguise themselves as 'men of God' who turn people away. This is why I am a firm believer of separation of church of state, for this very reason! If he wants to spew politics and influence elections, fine. Remove his tax exempt license.
As for this pastor, his church needs to be bombarded with letters of concern.Would you admit you worshiped at this church?

You'd think he'd get the message when his prayers went unanswered.

Pat Robertson's already prayed for Supreme Court justices' deaths and assassinations and for hurricanes to hit Florida, so I wouldn't hold your breath waiting for anything from him.
Still, this guy is a loon with a tiny congregation. Sadly, most cities have them. They're usually the same ones who won't get social security numbers because they consider them the mark of the beast.

Jesus...another Fred Phelps-style attention whore. I imagine the media will roll over for his every whim.
"Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.”

Well, like Phelps, it's apparent this message board will. I wouldn't know about either one of them, if not for this place.

But JohnBoy...is it CHRISTIAN to wish that anybody get cancer?
That doesn't seem like something Jesus would do. I can't picture Jesus saying, "Ooooh...I disagree with Pontius Pilate. I hope he gets cancer and DIES."
Can you?

Are you off your meds or something? What the hell are you talking about? I was responding to the question of "treason". What does treason have to do with Christianity? I couldn't care less what this whacko is saying. Why do so many people here equate someone saying they are Christian, with Christianity? Saying you're a Christian is not some sort of absolute. You would think you'd be intelligent enough to have determined that one, all on your own.

Johnboy-- I believe PJ is saying that what makes it so horrible isn't just that some guy is wishing for Obama's death, but that the guy who's doing it is a pastor, who's supposed to reflect Jesus' philosophy in his life and the statements he makes. It didn't look to me like he was making a jab at you personally.

JohnBoy, at the risk of infringing on your right to be dim, let me fill you in. Under 8 years of Bush, if anybody said anything critical of the president, far right loudmouths not unlike this death-praying pastor, would accuse said critics of treason.

You're right. Of course you're right. And absolutely no one would have known that if you hadn't taken time out of your busy day to set this place right.

I feel like writing him an angry letter, but he's probably just a sick, attention-seeking zealot and he would like it.

Who gives a **** what he prays for? Everybody knows prayer doesn't work or a cupcake covered naked Alec Baldwin would have shown up at my door years ago.
