Because I have an Obama button on my purse. A teacher that I work with said that I was unamerican because I was voting for Obama, who is a Muslim Terrorist. That McCain and Palin are good christian people. To which I asked her if she considered one of her students to be a terrorist because they are a Muslim...and she said well they are trained to be.
I gave her a list of websites that prove that Obama is not a Muslim, but she only believes Fix News. I and several of my fellow teachers tried to talk to her in a calm manner but she just called us un american. I am just flabergasted
Omg my Language Arts teacher gave a huge rant on people saying that this morning.

I know...she is a teacher and a mother of 2 and her husband is an episcipal reverand
No I live in the fake america....loved that on the Daily Show last night
Wow -- we are warned not to let our political beliefs be known. Honestly Violet, you have a good case to bring up harassment charges on that one.
Yeah, I was going to mention that.
I know and it wasn't just me. There were like 4 of us in the teacher's lounge. The whole button thing on my purse I usually leave it in my closet so kids can't see it. I just brought it out because I went out to lunch today
One of the reason I am so shocked is because she is a young teacher (under 30). At first we thought it was a joke but it kept going, even after some of us said let's stop talking about it...she wouldn't let it go
Does she talk about anything like that with her students?
If she does then that is REALLY a problem.
Someone who thinks like that shouldn't be allowed to teach kids. What kind of values are her students going to grow up with? And, god forbid, she ever has a Muslim student in her class... That's a scary thought...
You're a saint to deal with that.
There's kid at my school (I'm a senior) who basically does that same thing constantly...
Violet, did you say anything to the principal?
violet72, the part that sickens me the most is that you mentioned that one of the students that goes to your school is Muslim. And, that she is convinced that because of his religion he is a terrorist.
violet- do you teach in a public school or a private Christian school? To me, being a radical Christian is almost as bad as being a radical Muslim. One of my daughter's best friends is Muslim and we are Jewish. That kind of thinking NEVER even crosses my mind. That teacher grew up in a seriously sheltered world! She also needs to study up on Muslims because she obviously knows nothing about that religion. How small-minded!
Some of you might remember from four years ago this happened:

It was at my school. The teacher, contrary to the news reports (and I know because one of my best friends worked in the unit with her), told kids that they were wrong to not vote for Bush - she went on to tell them about how they were un-American for saying anything against him. I don't remember all the details, but she was VERY in the wrong. In the end, she was just looking for a buy-out basically since she seemed to know EXACTLY where to go for the press, falsely accusing our then principal of firing her for having a picture of Bush in her classroom.
This reminds me so much of that -- but if anything more happens, I would definitely suggest going to administration - no one has the right to talk to you like that, and worse, if she really believes that stuff the principal needs to know what kind of teachers work in the building...

That is a bit shocking, you'd think that because she is SO young she'd be a little more receptive to other's view points but GEE WIZ. If she wigged out about an Obama button on your purse calling you "Un-American" just imagine if she'd a caught you kissing another woman!!! Then you'd be branded a "Non-Woman." How sad and ridiculous.
She obviously doesn't seem to grasp the idea that on one hand there are extremists in the world, and on the other there are people who are similar in almost every way possible except for where they worship on Saturdays and Sundays. It actually hurts my heart a little.
violet72 did any of you mention it to the director or principal of the school? You must teach in a pro-America school.

I had someone tell me Obama was a terrorist. I looked them in the eye and said "Really? Well even if he is and he kills thousands of people he'd still be better than Bush. Did you vote for HIM?"

Maybe you should get one of those new passport cards, just in case anyone else calls you unAmerican. They are smaller than a passport book and fit in your wallet. It's only $20.
"Do you live in the real America?"
Apparently, she does, Phyllis... and the rest of us poor saps are living in this fantasy world that all Americans actually have a brain and choose to use it.
What were we thinking?!
...and this teacher really needs to be reported.
What subject does she teach Violet?
Did this really happen? Or did you make it up to get attention?
This is why I don't discuss politics at the workplace!
wow -- we are warned not to let our political beliefs be known.
which would kinda mean not having a visible button supporting a politician, right?
