hezbollah grabbed two israeli soldiers to go along with the one grabbed by hamas. israel is calling up reservists facing a two front conflict in gaza and along the lebanese border.
israel would turn lebanon back 20 years

And let's take a moment to applaud the forceful stand Bush has taken in reducing Mideast tensions:
* Civil war raging in Iraq.
* Taliban resurging in Afghanistan.
* Nuclear weapons proliferating in Iran.
* Another world war looming in Israel and Palestine and Lebanon.
* Hatred for Americans increasing all over Europe and Asia.
As George Bush says, "I am a WAR President!" Yee-haw!

George Bush has done nothing to promote peace in the world.
Nothing.
The United States used to be a beacon of hope. Doesn't it give you a moment's pause that Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld have trashed that tradition?

shockingly this thread is about israel, hamas and hezbollah, not george bush.
but as always to you, aything that happens anywhere in the world at anytime that adversely effects anyone can be attributed directly to george bush's presidency.
back to the topic, this has the potential to get uglier than anything seen in recent years depending on who israel targets for retaliation. a war with lebanon helps nobody, but the lebanese have been unable to deal with hezbollah (no thanks to bashir and his boys) so someobody's gonna have to pay the piper. who will it be and how steep a price will they pay?

it was just over a month ago that abu mazen had hamas on the verge of recognizing israel which would ahve been a huge step for them. how does that work anyway? do they currently just face israel, cover their eyes and hum loudly and pretend it's not there?
i know, i know it means that they don't recognize israel's right to exist, but i like the visual of them humming with their hands over their eyes.

oh that hurts. comparing me to lgf? that's by far the meanest thing you've ever said to me.
*edit*
i was wondering today though if the shalit kidnapping was in some way a reaction to the publication of the idea that hamas might recognize israel.

Please, at this point we'd be lucky if we didn't send an invading force into any country Israel was at war with. We're like Big overprotective brother. We have no hope of staying out of this.
EDIT
had an unnecesary question mark

the only way we get involved is if syria and iran kick off against israel. with 135,000 american troops in iraq, i don't see that happening even if israel goes after hezbollah's leadership in damascus.
as far as the act of war, israel was responding in kind to what they categorized as an act of war by lebanon via hezbollah.
conventionally, israel can whup the military forces of any three or four countries around her and has proven it time and time again, so i doubt we'll get involved unless somebody overtly attacks our forces in iraq (unlike the covert attacks via guerilla forces that have been going on all along in iraq by the iranians and the syrians).

U.S. President George W. Bush, speaking during a trip to Germany, warned that Israel should take care not to "weaken" Lebanon's government and stressed that Syria "needs to be held to account."
"The democracy of Lebanon is an important part of laying a foundation of peace in that region," Bush said.
"Israel has a right to defend herself," he said. "The concern is that any activities by Israel to protect herself will weaken that government," he said, referring to Lebanon.
Bush also said Syria's President Bashar al-Assad "needs to show some leadership toward peace."

Now that's leadership.

Need I point out that Clinton got the Israelis and the Palestinians closer than they have ever been, while simultaneously working to end bloodshed in Northern Ireland.
Had he not been derailed by a partisan impeachment over a lie that is trivial in comparison to Bush's lies, he might have helped achieve a more lasting peace. Might have.
But Bush is a self-proclaimed "war president," and his efforts have done nothing to move the world closer to peace but instead have intensified Islamist hatred against the US and the West. Bush didn't create that but by killing Muslim civilians and using torture, he put an American face on the "enemy of Islam." That was just plain stupid on the part of Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld and their neocon strategists.
There'll be no peace on Earth until Bush out of office. There may be no hope left for it by then.
