re: the i love george thread

I agree. I change my vote from Ckeaton to Ferris.

re: the i love george thread

ok, I'm over this. Believe it or not I think other people may have things to discuss on here instead of listening to us bicker. It is so pathetic. Once again I have no clue what your problem with me is, but obviously I've touched on a nerve here. I'm going to suggest you block me then. I feel quite positive that this dialogue is not going to become any more productive as you seem to find fault with everything I say. It's wasting everyone else's time - so I ask you to please respect my request to end this in an adult fashion.

Okay, close the thread. Godwin's Law has been invoked. Argument over. :)

re: the i love george thread

no guenevere - I was responding to ckeaton. It's going on in another thread right now as well and I'm a little bit tired of it. I apologize if you thought I was talking to you! I actually appreciate that your arguments are comprised of intellegent statements. No matter how different our ideas, you are atleast presenting your views in a supported manner.

not often you see a guy that green, got the blues that bad.

now, dg, i didn't think i'd been derogatory per se about jfk2's iraq plan. i didn't even know he had an iraq plan. but since i don't think know what it is besides going to the u.n. (which bush has done) and going to nato (which bush has done), let me do a little research on his specific policy initiatives regarding the situation and i'll attempt a more informed commentary at a later date. as it is, i think i'm all politic'd out for the day.

re: the i love george thread

Guenevere - Any compassionate person could not argue against helping someone else in need. However, the situations we face here in our own country demand that if we take the time, energy and money to help someone else out (which means we don't get to use them here) then there better be a good reason - like defense. It is pretty well established that Iraq was not endangering our lives here, so the only thing left to hang your hat on is the charity angle - and charity begins at home.

re: the i love george thread

The charity thing, I think can be argued both ways, and I guess those arguments have been exhausted on all sides.

I don't propose giving up on it now, I think that it could make matters even worse in many eyes.

And I agree that we need to protect our own country, but we can't be so close minded to not extend our help out once in a while. And I think that in the Middle East itself lies a threat to the US, and I think we should start focusing on the bigger picture while rebuilding Iraq. We can't back out of this now.

re: the i love george thread

Afghanistan, Afghanistan, Afghanistan. How come no one's countered my argument that we were already very busy rebuilding there, but pretty much abandoned the effort when we had the sudden irresistible urge to attack Iraq?

Besides, the Bush administration didn't attack Iraq as a result of September 11th; they used it as an excuse. Hours after the last plane crash, Bush's top advisers were wondering exactly how they would tie this to Iraq. They didn't ask, "Who did this?" They asked, how can we use this as an excuse to push the agenda we wanted all along? And that is not in the country's best interests.

re: the i love george thread

Guenevere - I'm all for looking at the big picture. And certainly, it is in the world's best interest - not just ours - if there is stability in the Middle East. As I've said to papa before, it is pretty well acknowledged that Kerry wouldn't be able to - or even want to - just pull out of this situation. However, there is perhaps a different approach that could be looked at. The current administration makes it clear that they have an agenda, and nothing will sway them from their chosen path. I'm not overly comfortable with leadership that does not pay attention to the results of their actions, but rather continues to push forward without consideration of cause and effect.

re: the i love george thread

Plum - I have exactly the same questions and concerns about the situation with Afghanistan, so I can't help you. But if someone DOES manage to come up with cogent thoughts on the matter, please let me know re: the i love george thread
