Including NY county. Have we ever had a tornado in the city?
: (
Just saw that. Warning in effect until 1 PM as of right now.

I am in Jersey. We have a severe thunderstorm watch until 8 PM. Is it storming in the city right now??

Just the one in Brooklyn last year.
I saw some speculation that all the tree damage the other night in Riverside and Central Park, among other places, might have been a quick tornado touchdown.
I did think it quite weird that all those trees fell over or snapped that fast. It was a bad storm, but it wasn't the first one like that.
right now, all I see out my window is a bit windy but with a blue sky.
This is what freaks me out a little about living in an apartment...I can only see east. All hell could be breaking loose in the other three directions and I'd never know it.
I don't know if there is one up for my area, but the one from a few weeks ago did hit about 35 minutes north of me.
The one I won't forget happened 19 years ago. We just moved into the house, and about a week later there was a tornado. It blew part of the roof off of the elementary school, and I forget what else.
City of Vaughan just N of TO declared a state of emergency due to the damage. Power lines down, gas leaks about 120 homes destroyed or too unsafe to return to . So far only one death. Be thankful.
Maybe it's the calm before the storm, but in my neighborhood, it's sunny and nice.

I looked on the weather.com radar a little while ago and it showed a front west of here near the mountain line in PA with some strong storms, but it seemed to me it was going more north than east and would pretty much miss here. Maybe the tail end of it could pass through. With weather like this (hot and humid) sometimes storms just pop up out of nowhere, too.
What's weird is that I just saw a severe thunderstorm warning on t.v. (I have ABC on), but when I went to weather.com, it said it's going to be sunny with a 5-10% chance of rain until about 7, when it becomes 40% with "scattered" storms. That's a big discrepancy! The radar is crazy, though, and yeah, I feel like with this heat and humidity, we'll get a big storm out of nowhere and then it'll calm again.

I was just coming back here to note that I'm in Queens and I see a giant cloud in the distance having formed that will probably be a future storm, and in the literally 10 secs it took me to get here and look out the window again...it's POURING! And dark.
Talk about coming out of nowhere.

they should really get rid of the meteorologist profession.
It rained a little bit up here in Maine. At the moment it's overcast and it's been a tad windy on and off.
I feel bad for my friend, hopefully his show won't get rained out.

Holy crap. I think that tornado warning should have been in effect for my area, which it wasn't.
I'm not sure if we got an actual tornado here in northwest New Jersey, but it sure seemed like it yesterday. It just came suddenly. It got extremely windy, and there are trees down everywhere, including across my driveway. What used to be shaded by trees along there, is now clear sky. One of the utility poles is down too, and covered by tree. So, I am only on here for right now because we are using an electric generator at night. And my dad claims we won't get the utility pole or power fixed until Tuesday. I hope he's lying.
I'm outside of Trenton and while I haven't seen a tornado or a tornado warning the roads are flooded. I was going out to dinner with my family but we had to turn around and go back because the roads were blocked. Several cars were stuck and there were tree limbs in the street. My brother is here for the day and was going to go back to Weehawkan but he's stuck here for the night.
I should have mentioned, this was yesterday. My favorite tree that I used to climb in, is gone. It got uprooted. Some roads are still closed from yesterday.
I'm just updating because it sounds like it's a comedy show at the end of the driveway now, and of course, I can't see it because it's 1/4 of a mile down and pitch black.
Still getting power from the generator. It sounds like they were going to put the new utility pole up, but they ran into problems. Somehow, they got it stuck across the road, while taking out a neighbor's mailbox. So now we can't go anywhere, because of the location of where the pole is stuck. And there are 5 trucks down in the street, trying to figure out what to do. I'm almost afraid of what mess they are going to make next. But, at least if they knock the power out for others on the street, I can't complain because it's still out up here.
Perfectly Marvelous, did you hear what happened at Acadia this afternoon? Really sad.

Anyone interested in some storm damage photos? These were from walking around my yard this morning. The ones from Friday are on my phone, and I can't figure out the email to facebook thing.

It's times like these that I have great questions for all the people who try to tell us what the climate will be like in 50 years. We can barely predict the weather 24 hours in advance (and even then the accuracy of those predictions don't have the highest percentage rates) and yet I'm supposed to believe that we can know what it will be like in 50 years?
