i now have a working netbook at the hospital!! big thank you to WW for updating everyone. i was afraid i'd get everyone worried if nothing was posted.

i'm doing really well.
it's no secret that i've had some emotional problems, but emotionally, this is the best i can ever remember feeling. i even told my GYN doc and he said he hears that from FTM people alot because it was like my body was saying "something's in here that shouldn't be!"

i'm on a clear liquid diet, so i've mostly just had apple juice and tea today, hoping ot be able to have some toast or something like that tromorrow.

i've been up and walking a few times... my mom brought my walker from home and a nurse walks next to me pulling my IV pole.

i've got 12 staples in, and i dont even really feel them. they get taken out on thursday.

my best friend and his GF are coming on sunday to see me, and i'm super happy about that.

i'm kinda sleepy since they have been giving me benedryl so i don't cough alot and make the staples push out, plus my grandma is coming up here in a few minutes, so i have to stop typing, just wanted to give you all an update and thank WW for relaying my mini-update from earlier. =]

my little cousin came to see me with my uncle... she's such a sweetheart. she made me a card it totally made my day that she called me paxton. she's a little young to understand everything that's going on, so her making a card addressed to paxton and calling me paxton is big, and made me very happy =]

DO NOT watch till you've got your staples out- the laughing (or retching) that it will induce could be harmful to your recovery.

As a HysterSister lemme tell you some stuff they DON"T tell you about. First- yes to the walking but an even bigger yes to stool softeners and any other mild laxative. All that nipping and tucking means the bowel got pushed around abit and IT DON'T LIKE to be pushed! It usually responds by either not moving at all or moving ineffectively ie spasmodicaly and of course you cant bear down to push! The pain meds they give you ( mophine and later percocet in my case) also help to bung you up but pain is bad so take what you need. (I was on a patient controlled pain pump for 2 days I still consider it to be one of the best "friends" I ever had as it was the only thing that cared enough about me to make the pain go away!) Go slow with the dietary increases even though you will find yourself hungry.
When your bowels do go the cramping is exquisite but the relief is akin to a religious experience.
There are different kinds of pain too. There are disolving stitches below the external closing w staples and sometimes before these are absorbed they can rub and irritate esp where the knots were put ( one of them even worked its way to the upper skin!) You tend to notice this when sitting up or turning or otherwise repositioning. It can feel like a burning sensation along the suture line but while frightening and annoying as hell is actually normal. Use care when geting out of bed due to the twist required to get your legs out. Supine is better than flat a bed wedge (not as much fun as it sounds) can help.
You will find yourself tiring easily part of that is the anaesthesia takes time to clear the body and you also need to rest in order to heal from the surgical trauma. The funny thing is ( esp after you go home) you may find it hard to actually fall asleep. (I had to take a sedative as I could not sleep even though I was exhausted and desperately wanted to sleep)
If you do have to cough brace with apillow over you abdomen.
Sometimes the pain goes on a bit longer than the docs figure on and you need additional pain control. ask for it but be prepared to be considered for suspicion of narcotic seeking behavior.
I'm sure they did tell you but let me reiterate- NO lifting for 6 weeks (minimum) you will start to feel better and try to push things along before you are actually ready- RESIST this temptation!
Edit addendum: invest in one of those grabber thingys so u don't hav eto wait fro people to pick stuff up for you.

Finally congrats on taking the next step in your life!

apparently, you can't have gas for a few days after because your bowel is still asleep. also, apparently, on this hospital unit, farting is cause for celebration because of that fact. i was not prepared for that type of celebration. i've never had a fart party before, but it was an interesting experience.
