Bush is ultimately responsible for the decisions made by his Administration (as is Obama), but one wonders how different those decisions might be with a different group surrounding him.
I remember being outraged when this happened during the Bush regime. You offer your life for your country, and then when you come home, IF you come home, you must pay for losing parts of your body.
I was sure that Dems would immediately correct this, so now I'm shocked. Even if the proposal doesn't go through, I'm shocked Obama would even consider it.

Good. It seems better to throw out ridiculous ideas and get enough information to think better of them than to just keep pushing on with the nonsense. Now, if there can just be some attempt to limit the stupid ideas getting even this far... meh, probably too much to ask.

Maybe, just maybe, Obama has everything on the table, and is looking at all options. Personally, I want an evaluator-in-chief - someone who considers all of the options reasonably available, excludes the bad or unreasonable ones, and then makes a decision.
Obama's Administration has had a few missteps already (especially with some of his nominees and the whole AIG bonus mess), but I do like the fact that he looks at everything when addressing problems as he tries to solve them. Nothing is off the table. And that is OK with me. He is going to make individual decisions I disagree with (hell, there are already some I don't like), but that is expected in a representative democracy.

if it's reasonably available doesn't that by nature make it resonable? i'm havving trouble with your reasoning here. as in it seems rather unreasonable. as far as reason has anything to do with slavishly tossing the pretty black man's salad.

Papa, from personal experience, sometimes looking at the oddest and most far-fetched and unreasonable solutions create dialog and discussions that help you solve a problem.
I just spent six months negotiating a series of very important contracts for my company - taking positions and looking at options that on their face seemed unreasonable, whacky, or out of left field. But they led to discussions that got us to a place where the deal got done.
So, I am not opposed to looking at everything on the table, and dismissing what does not work, or will no work, but I do want it considered.
I find solutions sometimes are created when you think outside the box. It may be a starting point to eventually where you are going to go. What may be reasonably available may be the easiest thing to do, but it may not get you where you need to go. And, in the end, what is reasonably available may not be reasonable to all parties.
i'm sure you would feel exactly the same if the administration announced tomorrow that it was considering taxing abortions at 100% and removing all federal funding for them as a means to generate revenue. what? it's just thinking outside the box.

And no, I would not like it, and I assume after consideration, it would be rejected. As would the federal government providing free abortion on demand for all. But, the later suggestion is probably more sound on a fiscal basis.
I would hazard to guess that on a straight long-term funding basis, your proposal would cost more money than it would save and providing fee abortions on demand would save on government expenses over time in excess of the cost. I have no actuarial data to prove that, but it is just a hunch.
I would not mind legalizing prostitution and marijuana and taxing those to generate revenue.

Lets kill them before they are born to cut down costs. If they make it out, we have to cover them cradle to grave. I see your point. It is cheaper to abort. It is simple math not life & death.
