Rod, after you say hi to her, be sure to see how my Grandfather is doing. Make sure he's roasting for me.

Nah, I don't think I believe in Hell. But half-witted bastards like you-know-who provoke me into wishing such a place existed just for them.

I shouldn't wish ill on anyone. I'm sorry I said that, Rodney, but I'm not sorry for the sentiment behind it. You're a disgusting excuse for a human being and you're not worth the time and effort it took me to type this post and stop myself from saying what I really want say to you.

margo, you're optimistic. do you really think they'll be able to declare a winner that day? i mean, i know i do, but that's because i think bushie's gonna take at least 320 electoral votes and a clear majority. but even so, the legal teams that have been set up to wrangle this decision are ready to go city by city and state by state for re-counts.

We'll see, papa. I'm not sure public sentiment will allow that. Depends on the numbers and where the closest voting is.

Which is just a nice way of saying that if the numbers turn out like last year, Florida can look forward to a very fun November. Thanks for loosening anti-voting fraud restrictions, Jeb!

sentiment schmentiment, the public opinion is whatever the media decides it is (and i include both sides in that assessment, although it should be noted that in the 3rd quarter of this year's nielsons foxnews beat the ratings of cnn, cnbc, msnbc and headline news combined in primetime).

I disagree, papa. I think public sentiment and media bias are a chicken-and-egg phenomenon. Actually, co-evolution might be a better analogy. Both sides are dependent on each other and determine each other's evolution. Like long-blossomed flowers and long-beaked hummingbirds. They evolved and got longer and longer together.

Papa --

With all of the jurisdictions using touch screen machines that leave no paper trail, there won't be anything to recount this time. Now if Jeb Bush decides to systematically disenfranchise black voters again with intimidation tactics (they've already started going house to house in the black neighborhoods), threats, purging the rolls again, the Kerry lawyers will know not to make the same mistake they did last time with that idiotic Equal Protection argument they put forward (which was a loser from the get-go) and this time go right for the 15th Amendment and the Voting Rights Act of 1965 -- had they argued and won that last time, Florida would have had an entirely different result. One of the possible remedies the court could have ordered under the '65 Act would have been, given the widespread evidence of state sponsored racial harassment and disenfranchisement, tossing out the results of Palm Beach and Miami-Dade altogether and holding a new election for those counties with federal monitors in place -- I don't Bush would have liked those results the second time around.

In addition, I'd love to see the results of a Florida election in which all the voters are actually alive.

i can't believe you'd actually argue for buchanan's votes to be stripped away like that! that's just mean-spirited!

but i think it's possible for gw to win it without florida and am looking more at states like minnesota, michigan (which together add up to florida), iowa, washington and even new hampshire and maine (ok that's a stretch). i think that the fight for votes will be longer and more protracted than last time because i really believe that if it's close anywhere, either side will go straight to the lawyers.

it's florida, plum! their motto was almost "state of the living dead." it's the only state with early bird specials at the combination buffet/mortuary.
