1776 Revival

Just watched the movie version of 1776 a couple of nights ago. This is my first experience with the show in any form. I was struck by how relevant it is at this moment of our political and cultural history. The arguments over what kind of country we want to be, how different factions of our country have to figure out how to live together despite fundamental differences in the way they think, the calling out of the hypocrisy of white liberal progressiveism. It's all there. I'm not sure how lucrative a revival would actually be, but if the timing is ever going to be right for a revival, it feels like now is that time.

1776 Revival

I LOVE 1776! I also have been saying it's a great time for a revival. I joke and say if they did a revival now it could be called "the poor man's hamilton" 1776 Revival But seriously, I love 1776 and have only experience the movie. Would love to see it live

I... hated the movie :| Couldn't get beyond the first 10 minutes.

Caption: Every so often there was a rare moment of perfect balance when I soared above him.

1776 Revival

I'd love to see Lincoln Center Theater produce a revival with Bartlett Sher at the helm. That would be perfect!

1776 Revival

I would love a 1776 Broadway revival. *Especially* if they got Santino Fontana to play John again. His performance in New York City Center's 1776 was wonderful. It's been one of my top favorite productions on or off Broadway to date. I have yet to watch the movie.

1776 Revival

William Daniels was quite disappointed in the movie as well. He thought it should have been shot a la Olivier's "Henry V," opening as a stage production before becoming more cinematic/realistic, and that the lack of theatricality hurt it.

I saw the original production with 99% of its original cast way back when, and its dynamic quality is largely missing from the film in spite of how faithful it is.

It is a wonderful show. I was fortunate enough to have done it in stock when I was starting out. To this day it is one of my favorite experiences.

1776 Revival

Saw the original production when John Cullum stepped in for William Daniels. He was magnificent.
