Which network broadcast the new musical version starring Mia Farrow and Danny Kaye in 1976?
Thanks!!
I remember this being screened on UK TV and I've always wished they would release it on DVD.
A brilliant production (if my memory serves me well- 30 years is a long time LOL)
It was produced By Hallmark and screened on NBC, Dec 12th 1976.
Do these TV companies forget that they have al those wonderful shows deep down in their archives???
Thanks, WickedBoy2!!
Although I would hardly call it "wonderful." It was just horrible. I got a copy on VHS and could only bare enough to watch it once. Julie Andrews' narration was the best part about it. (Though I must admit it was very entertaining to watch Danny Kaye attempt Hook)
LOL well i did say 'if' my memory serves me well which it seems to not have! I'd still like to see it again tho!
LOL well.
It's true - it is a shame that the networks don't release these hidden treasures, but from their perspective regarding this new production of PETER PAN -- it is to their benefit to keep it "lost" and forgotten.
Perhaps it is available to watch at the library or the museum of television in NY?
The Danny Kaye /Sandy Duncan TV 'Pinocchio', also 1976, that was made available some time back is painful to watch too!
Touche!
However, talk about prophetic.
I mean, she did end up with all those kids, a sort of "Lost Boys" groups if you will...
LOL ouch! x
Although as it turns out, Woody may have been the one who didn't want to grow up. He just wanted to keep hitting sevente...
Oh never mind.

Has anyone seen what is billed as PETER PAN 360? I'll be in Boston when it plays there in November and I'm wondering whether it'll be worthwhile.
Yes Dollypop, it's good but it's strictly a play. No one sings in it.
For your viewing pleasure... here is Mia Farrow as Peter Pan singing the hit "Love":

And here is Danny Kaye as Captain Hook:

I have a friend in Peter Pan 360 and I caught the production when it was in Chicago. It is definitely worth while. it is the original Peter Pan by JM Barrie. Its long, but I loved it!
I wonder how many of those shirtless pirates Danny Kaye auditioned.

To be fair and accurate, the Theatre 360 Peter Pan is a straight play, but it's a new adaption and NOT the Barrie original. I haven't seen it, but I am curious to see it.
I LOVED the Sandy Duncan Pinocchio. It was rebroadcast in the early 90s. I haven't seen it since.
The Mia farrow Peter Pan is entertaining but absolutely PAINFUL. i was also offput by the changes to the mythology.
I absolutely love Danny Kaye in anything. Love him as Captain Hook! :)
I saw both Peter Pan and Pinocchio as a kid. I remember nothing about Peter Pan at all. Only that I saw it. So it left zero impression on me. I remember liking Pinocchio, but I haven't seen it since.
My favorite of that era was the Lesley Ann Warren Cinderella, which showed up annually for a bit.

The Warren version of Cinderella is on DVD. It was the one I liked a lot when I was younger, but it hasn't aged very well.
This remaked made its debut on CBS in 1964 and continued to air annually until 1974.
Thanks, guys! I guess I neglected to say that I already own Cinderella on DVD.
Believe it or not, I own the Pinocchio mentioned above on DVD, too. It was a gift, but I've never watched it. I think it's still in its plastic. After this thread, I should crank it up and see if it's any good. I enjoyed it as a kid, but that was a LONG time ago.

Briony McRoberts, who played Wendy in this film, tragically died last month after being hit by a train. Her agent believed that her death was a result of an act of suicide.

Mia Farrow wrote this on her Facebook last month:
"so so sad to hear that Briony McRoberts has gone. When i played Peter Pan, she was the radiant 'Wendy' and a joy to work with."
ETA: I didn't think this version of the story was very well-done, but her acting was good. R.I.P.
