In The Heights is NOT to be missed, quite a fantastic show. Jersey Boys is ALWAYS fun, and Wicked is very light and fun one, it's quite a spectacle. RENT is a classic and if you haven't see it, Eden Espinosa is Maureen--that should be wonderful. Legally Blonde-also a great choice, most of the OBC with a few exceptions are still there. YOung Frankenstien has AMAZING F/X. wonderful cast...okay story line. Also want to throw in Little Mermaid--Sherie Rene Scott is amazing! Spamalot is simply hilarious as well, it all depends on your taste, though. Avenue Q will bust your gut laughing and Spring Awakening is very good if you like RENT- touching story and beautiful lighting.
Make sure you tell us which shows you chose!

Posted: 5/7/08 at 7:29pmThat is super exciting that you will be going to NYC for the first time! I would recommend seeing In The Heights, Spring Awakening, Mary Poppins, and Young Frankenstein. Hope you have a wonderful trip!

Posted: 5/7/08 at 7:29pmI'm currently recommending Boeing-Boeing to everyone.
#14re: 1st time going to NYC!!! What to see?
Posted: 5/7/08 at 8:34pmDefinitely In The Heights, it's absolutely wonderful, though I have to warn you before you go it doesn't have the greatest book but it's still the best show. Others would be Rent, Gypsy, Jersey Boys is fantastic, Legally Blonde was pretty good it's a fun night out. Also Lion king is great so is Spamalot and A Chorus Line. Also, you are going Tony week so In The Heights may be a big show around then and a few others like Gypsy, they may be packed.

Definitely see GYPSY! This show is broadway! The show is perfection with a cast as close to perfection as possible! You will not be dissappointed!
This a show everyone should see in their lifetime and what better way than as your first Broadway Show?
If you decide not to see gypsy I would strongly recommend South Pacific!

Posted: 5/7/08 at 9:36pmIt would help if you told us how many shows are you planning to see ! There are many fantastic shows playing on Broadway and everyone has their favorites. I saw 20 shows on my April NYC trip. My top 5 were IN THE HEIGHTS, SOUTH PACIFIC, GYPSY, XANADU and SPRING AWAKENING ! From shows I've seen in the past, Hairspray is my all-time favorite, but George Wendt is dreadful and almost ruined my second time seeing it ! The Lion King remains one of the most amazing things I've ever seen on stage and Mamma Mia the most fun I've ever had on a show ! Good luck and have fun in the Greatest City on Earth !

I don't know how many exactly, but my friend who I'm staying with says it's really easy to get cheap tickets. And I'd prefer to see shows I can't see anywhere else. In one of my previous posts, I said I've seen Wicked, Rent, and Young Frankenstein in Seattle, and I just remembered I also saw Mamma Mia and The Lion King in London a few years back.
It would be nice to see Rent one more time before it closes since it's maybe my all-time favorite show, but who knows?

Hey, London is where I have seen Mamma Mia and Lion King, too
Well, yes, RENT is incredible, but with the National Tour coming soon, I think it would be much better to see it with Anthony and Adam near your home ! I don't think it will be easy getting cheap tickets to SOUTH PACIFIC though, it is selling really well. But you will have no problem for HEIGHTS, GYPSY, XANADU and SPRING AWAKENING !

Posted: 5/7/08 at 10:07pmPassing Strange shouldn't be missed. Also, Gypsy is fantastic. August: Osage County will blow your mind. And even though you've seen the tour, I still recommend Rent, since it's different seeing it on Broadway than the tour.

Posted: 5/7/08 at 10:10pmSee some new shows like August or Sunday in the Park, but also see some classics--I suggest Phantom and Chicago. They're a part of Broadway history : )
