The only shows that I'm really excited for are WARRIOR, HAVE A NICE LIFE and PARTY COME HERE, and mainly because of the people involved. Last year's NYMF was so hit or miss that I'm being very choosy this year so far with ticket-buying.

I already have tickets to:

Go Go Beach
Smoking Bloomberg
Gutenberg! The Musical
and
The Night of The Hunter

When Tickets go on sale to the public on September 1 I want to get tickets to some other shows:

White Noise
The Paisley Sisters' Christmas Special
Party Come Here
Virgins
This Could Be Love
Behind The Limelight
and
J.O.B. The Hip-Hopera

I wanted to see The Flight of the Lawnchair Man and Have A Nice Life too, but they are not playing the week I am coming to NYC in September. Including these (Assuming I am able to get tickets to all of them), Altar Boyz and 5 Broadway Shows, I am seeing 17 shows in 7 Days!

I am also interested in JOURNEY TO THE WEST. The website is awesome. Plus you can download the whole score! I have heard good things about EMERALD MAN and PARTY COME HERE as well.

I am seeing Go Go Beach because of what I heard about Chandra Schwartz in Last seasons "......Cheerleader".

Also, Austin Miller is the male lead and I heard he's in a swim suit the whole show. That alone is worth the ticket price.

I'm seeing Warrior!

And the other thing about the Phantom Lady was, Bert, she realized, in the city that never sleeps... What did she realize, Kitten? That all the songs she'd listened to, all the love songs, that they were only songs. What's wrong with that? Nothing, if you don't believe in them. But she did, you see. She believed in enchanted evenings, and she believed that a small cloud passed overhead and cried down on a flower bed, and she even believed there was breakfast to be had... Where? On Pluto. The mysterious, icy wastes of Pluto.

I would highly reccommend "Rivers End". I saw a fully staged production locally and it has a fantastic score; the book is good for the most part and the production is very innovative.

I personally can't wait for THE MAN IN MY HEAD. Having seen Darius perform a reading of this in Boston, I can say that this his performance is pretty fierce -and the score is pretty hot. An interesting and very different response to GHETTO SUPERSTAR if you ask me...

I must give a plug for GO-GO BEACH here. In college, our senior practicum was the "premiere performance" of Go-Go Beach. I think preliminary scripts had seen full productions only twice before. We workshopped it for over 4 months with the writer and composers (all of whom are amazing people). It was thrilling to have collaborated on the end result (which, I think, is the script being performed at the NYMTF); to work so closely with the creative team to flush out and give birth to a new work. It was great!

Plus, the show is a ton of fun... It's Beach Blanket Bingo mixed with Psycho Beach Party with a little taste of the hippie movement. (And I know we were in bathing suits the entire show when we did it, so most likely this cast will be, too - which is an added bonus.)

Does anyone know anything about THE SCREAMS OF KITTY GENOVESE other than what it's based on? Seen any workshops, heard any music from it? I'm intrigued.

Check out THE FUTURE OF THE MUSICAL THEATER cabaret showcase in Astoria--it has the most interesting material I've heard in the festival yet.

Hard to tell which shows would be appropriate for my daughter to see, but she loves elaborate dancing so mentions of JOURNEY TO THE WEST make me want to take a second look at that, and she loves fizzy high school musicals so GO-GO BEACH sounds interesting.

I also flagged ALIVE IN THE WORLD, CAPTAIN GRAVY’S WAVY NAVY, EMERALD MAN, GUTENBERG THE MUSICAL, HOT AND SWEET, LUNCH, THE PAISLEY SISTERS’ CHRISTMAS SPECIAL, SCHOOL DAZE, and SMOKING BLOOMBERG, but I'm just going on NYMF's descriptions.

Anyone know which of these would be best for a tween who loves DROWSY CHAPERONE and FOLLIES, makes fun of LESTAT and TARZAN, and is seriously freaked out by the openings to PHANTOM and SWEENEY? In other words, she doesn't want to see Kitty Genovese get knifed, or watch children turn into zombies. But she had a great time at two recent Fringe musical comedies.

I thought I would bring this topic back up to see what everyone got when tickets went on sale earlier today. I got everything I planned to, and one more. This is what I am seeing at the NYMF (along with the Broadway/Off-Broadway shows I am seeing in parentheses):

September 22:
Emerald Man
(Martin Short: Fame Becomes Me)
Daniel Reichard at Ars Nova

September 23:
Go Go Beach
White Noise
(Wicked)

September 24:
(A Chorus Line)
Smoking Bloomberg

September 25:
The Paisley Sisters' Christmas Special
Gutenberg! The Musical
(Altar Boyz)
Tastiskank at Ars Nova

September 26:
Party Come Here
Virgins

September 27:
The Night of the Hunter
Hot And Sweet
(The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie)

September 28:
Behind The Limelight
J.O.B. The Hip-Hopera
(The Producers)

To say the least, I am going to have a very busy week.

I can't believe no one bought tickets for THE TRAGIC AND HORRIBLE LIFE OF THE SINGING NUN.

It's THE SHAGGS of the 2006 NYMF. A true story more bizarre than fiction.

My friend and I are going to see The Screams of Kitty Genovese because it sounded like something different then we normally see and it took place where we live. Our fathers actually remember it happening so it should be interesting

"It's THE SHAGGS of the 2006 NYMF."

I actually liked "Philosophy of the World"...esp. the little car song.

If plays based on outsider musicians are really becoming a trend, does anyone out there want to help me put one together about Jandek?

J.O.B. is sounding really cool. It's about time someone put good hip-hop in a show.

I suggest "this could be love". They did an open rehersal in calgary and it was quite cute. parts of it are kind of last 5 years ish. it wasnt breath taking, but it was fun.

If you haven't seen EMERALD MAN already, go do it. I saw it today, and it was incredible! Great story, great music, insanely talented cast.

I've still got:
WARRIOR (tomorrow)
THE SCREAMS OF KITTY GENOVESE (9/26)

broadwaydetined,

I was at that open rehearsal too! As said above This Could Be Love is cute...but I feel like the score needs more work. The songs were highly foregettable at this point. but the performaner had a lot of charisma and there are some clever ideas in its execution.
