Best Musical Nominees are:Curtains, Grey Gardens, Legally Blonde, Mary Poppins, and Spring Awakening
(the Pirate Queen just does not have enough going for it right now to garner a Best Musical nomination, but then again, neither did The Wedding Singer)

1) A CHORUS LINE and LES MISERABLES are not eligible for the Best Musical Revival Awards.
2)It's John Gallagher, Jr. Not James.
3)A CHORUS LINE is also not eligible for Best Choreography.

Posted: 3/21/07 at 5:11pmI completely disagree with the original post, but both A CHORUS LINE and LES MISERABLES are indeed eligible for the Best Revival category, they're just not eligible for the technical awards.

I thought they were ruled ineligible.
They're complete recreations of the originals.

why are les mis & ACL not eligible for tech awards?
and why wouldn't they be eligible for best revival of a musical?
yah seriously, JOHN gallagher, jr. don't blaspheme here, please. =P

Posted: 3/21/07 at 5:14pmAdding a "maybe" to your thread title doesn't gove this thread any more merit. This is a pointless topic to discuss. Try again in May when the nominees are announced.

Posted: 3/21/07 at 5:14pmThere are only four Best Musical nominees, not five.
#8re: 2007 Tony Winners(Maybe)
Posted: 3/21/07 at 5:16pmdramaqueen2-they wouldn't be eligible for the technical awards because they are the exact designs and arrangements made for their original incarnations. Do you really think it's fair to the other contenders to nominate Theoni V. Aldredge for her costume designs for A Chorus Line when she didn't even contribute anything to the revival except for permission for her original designs to be used?

Mary Poppins for Best Musical? No way jose...
The final will most likely end up being:
Curtains
Grey Gardens
Legally Blonde
Spring Awakening
LoveMusik is the wild card...
A Chorus Line is not eligible for Choreography...

ACL & LES MIZ are eligible for Best Revival and the actors in both are all eligible to be nominated, the Tony administration committee has ruled all of the design elements and choreography ineligible since they are more or less exact recreations of those from the original production (and several of those people who did the recreating already won Tonys for this work the first time around).

Posted: 3/21/07 at 5:28pmIs there a reason they only do four nominees in the best show categories, but five for the others?

Posted: 3/21/07 at 5:44pmThe Tony Administrative committee has always tried to keep the categories as competitive as possible. which is why they limit most awards to four nominees. They only went to to having five in the performing categories a few years ago (2000) and while it occasionally gives a shot to a deserving actor who'd otherwise be overlooked, many years in various categories that fifth slot is difficult to fill and ends up going to a performer not quite in the same league as the others, who's only there to "fill out" the category. Four slots is generally MORE than enough to be able to recognize all of the truly first rate achievements in each category.

After watching legally blonde and just watching again now(i wont say how) i dont think anyone should underestimate this show or laura.
I have a funny feeling this is gonna do a lot better than people think

Posted: 3/21/07 at 6:00pmI think LoveMusik will get nominated over Blonde, to be honest. With LoveMusik's creative team and cast, it is hard to imagine it being really bad.

I bet you anything LB gets the nominations
its to big to ignore

Right now, without having seen LOVEMUSIK or LEGALLY BLONDE, I think it's:
CURTAINS
GREY GARDENS
MARY POPPINS
SPRING AWAKENING
(A little obvious, since I don't think HIGH FIDELITY, THE TIMES THEY ARE A CHANGIN', MARTIN SHORT: FAME BECOMES ME, nor GRINCH have any fire against those four.) I feel like I am forgetting a contender...

Posted: 3/21/07 at 6:09pmIt's size has nothing to do with it getting a nomination.
#20re: 2007 Tony Winners(Maybe)
Posted: 3/21/07 at 6:10pmI mean size in the sense of the talent(on stage and off stage)
#21re: 2007 Tony Winners(Maybe)
Posted: 3/21/07 at 6:17pmYou could say the same for Lovemusik. Harold Prince, Donna Murphy, Kurt Weil, Micheal Cerveris... I'd say that is a big amount of talent.

Posted: 3/21/07 at 6:40pmwonderfulwizard11-Talent does not always equal a good show. Prettybelle, anyone?
#23re: 2007 Tony Winners(Maybe)
Posted: 3/21/07 at 6:44pmwickedfan- I know what you mean. And I know that Lovemusik could totally bomb. But I was just saying that it does have a large amount of talent, as does Legally Blonde.
#24re: 2007 Tony Winners(Maybe)
Posted: 3/21/07 at 6:47pmI know. However, right now it is looking more likely that Legally Blonde will take the fourth slot. If its San Francisco reviews were any indication of the show's quality and future success, with a few touch ups, the show could be both a big hit and rather good. LoveMusik I'm very much looking forward to, but I know practically nothing about it except whose involved and what it's about.
