Well, it can't bomb financially, because it is not-for-profit, but it can bomb critically.
I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.

Neddy - it'll be great to tour, especially with someone famous in the title roles.
Imagine Spring Awakening or Grey Gardens playing in Lubbock, Texas or Des Moines, Iowa.

But do you think it will be nominated? I mean, it could win if nominated, but do you think the nominating comitee will pick it?

I see where you are coming from, but I don't think there is any chance it will take it. Especially when there are so many other shows that could do well in Lubbok (Mary Poppins and Curtains)

I think if it's as good as they've been saying than yes, it has a good shot. If it's a stinker, of course it doesn't (have a shot).
No matter what's nominated, Curtains will win. Great potential to tour, great potential to star cast.
As I said, imagine Grey Gardens or Spring Awakening in the Bible belt.

For me, it all comes down to wether they nominate Legally Blonde or LoveMusik. If its LoveMusik, Curtains will take the crown. If its LB, it will be between LB and Curtains. This is of course talking about the tour/out-of-town vote factor. Its plausible SA, LoveMusik, or GG could pull an upset.
I have several names, one is Julian2. I am also The Opps Girl. But cross me, and I become Bitch Dooku!

Uh...someone likes Spring Awakening and Company.

So is everyone just counting out LoveMusik and 110 in the Shade and their performers/designers/directors? I think if these shows are done right that you could see a big shake up as far as all these predictions are going.

Actually, I do imagine GG in the Bible belt. With the exception of "goddam" and "damn" in "Around the World," it's pretty clean. It is a reasonably wholesome play. Yes, it deals with dark themes, but they're presented in a way that will probably be acceptable, more so than say, "Spring Awakening".

Yankee, do you really think Eve Best has a chance against Redgrave, Lansbury, Seldes, White et al? I mean, she's wonderful and I'm sure she'll be brilliant, but she's almost completely unknown in America and that can usually mean not winning. I'm sure she will be nominated, but I doubt she'll win.
"You travel alone because other people are only there to remind you how much that hook hurts that we all bit down on. Wait for that one day we can bite free and get back out there in space where we belong, sail back over water, over skies, into space, the hook finally out of our mouths and we wander back out there in space spawning to other planets never to return hurrah to earth and we'll look back and can't even see these lives here anymore. Only the taste of blood to remind us we ever existed. The earth is small. We're gone. We're dead. We're safe."

I have no idea.
Just making an early prediction, having thus far only seen Julie White. She was phenominal (and I'm still rooting for her), but Little Dog closed too early.
Isn't Misbegotten transferring because of Eve Best and Spacey?

Question: Were there not five Best Musical nominees in 2005?(25th Annual Putnam Co. Spelling Bee, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, The Light in the Piazza, and Spamalot)
also, I realize that LoveMusik does have a lot of star power, but I'm not sure that Tony is really gonna feel it. Also, Curtains seems like it will have the support of the same people who liked Drowsy last year, not enough to get Best Musical.

For those of criticizing Legally Blonde and saying it doesn't have a chance, have you seen it (and I mean LIVE)??? Because I have and it's phenomenal. I also saw Curtains which I didn't enjoy nearly as much. I will be shocked if Legally Blonde isn't at least nominated.

I don't agree Gallagher is going to win. I think he has a good shot, but I hardly doubt he is a lock such as Ebersole is.
No there were four Best Musical nominess in 2005. Chitty was not one of them.
And if Lovemusik turns out as good as it sounds, it will be phenomenal. If it is, I think it has a better shot than LB, IMO. If Love flops, though, the spot is LB's.

While it's true that it's foolish to predict the "winners" of the Tonys so soon, if one remembers that the Tonys have ceased to be a reliable standard for excellence, it's fairly easy to guess what might receive an award should a particular show be nominated.
Best Musical is far from an award for excellence at this point in time; its an award for most potential to tour. That being the case, I can see Spring awakening, Mary Poppins, Legally Blonde and Curtains being the most likely winners, if nominated. Grey Gardens seems too esoteric for the masses.
The only award that really carries any weight anymore IMHO, is Best Original Score. The industry knows that the Big Award is ridiculous (Jersey Boys, Lion King, Fosse, Millie) whereas the award for actual merit always goes to the Best Score Winner, otherwise we'd have seen Best Musical go to Drowsy, Ragtime, Parade and Urinetown. (Yes, I know these titles don't exactly match up, but I'm not anal enough to check the Tony advertising page ... er website to make the correction.)
The acting awards are obvious popularity contests, so to predict them here on the board is merely wishful thinking. Personally, I want Curtains to win everything, but that's strictly a sentimental thing for me; I'm a huge fan of Kander and Ebb, Rupert Holmes, David Hyde Pierce and Debra Monk.
Ah, hell. I only watch the Tonys for the performances anymore.

Am I the only person convinced that Spring Awakening is going to take home best musical?
I also fear for Legally Blonde - people have gone from having low expectations (based on it being Legally Blonde the musical) to having high expectations (based on SF reviews & reports) and I think that's going to hurt the show enormously. Which is so sad.

I think costumes and sets are a lock for Mary Poppins. It's between Esparza and Pierce. Ebersole WILL win. As for musical, My choices are:
Curtains
Grey Gardens
Spring Awakening
Mary Poppins or LoveMusik

shesamarshmallow, do you think Blonde has been overhyped based on the reviews?
