God, aren't we all sounding like entitled theatre queens...
Sure, it could be a little better, but I'm just glad we get a recording since Bernie's was only 5 years ago.
I'm really thankful that they have recorded this. But as said, with the advancement of technology and compared to the other recent released cast albums, it's quite disappointing that some of the numbers on the CD have these distortions.
But really, I'm enjoying the CD!!!

nope, you got bad speakers or something
No distortion here. Perhaps there was a bad batch pressed?

sondheimgeek, I totally agree with you that life is way too short to fret ourselves over distortions! I'm also thrilled that these fantastic performances are now preserved. It brings back wonderful memories of the night I saw the show.
But I have to respectfully disagree with you. I didn't start this thread for people to quibble over every small mistake. It was intended to see how many others were hearing the same things. I really don't mind a few mistakes here and there. On the studio cast recording of Jesus Christ Superstar and the OBC of West Side Story, for example, I can definitely hear noises in the background. It doesn't bother me, and I find it endearing. The problem with Gypsy is that it's distracting. Compared with other recording I've bought from recent broadway seasons, I simply find the distortions surprising for this day and age.
And I would definitely not start a thread about sound quality in a pre-1950 recording! It's expected and, therefore, not distracting.
Oh no, I understand what you mean. No harm here. I simply didn't know it was actually distracting. To be honest, I hadn't even noticed until it was brought to my attention.
Again, I didn't know it was distracting. Sorry!
'If Momma Was Married' is the only track when I can hear it, and only at the end.
Distortion or not. The sound quality is pretty amazing. And better than the 03 recording.
Don't ask any questions. But I have heard from Rob Sher the album producer. And he has said this about the distortion. It is an actual error, and will be fixed.
THERE WERE TRANSCRIPTION ERRORS IN THE MANUFACTURING PROCESS. TIME LIFE IS ADDRESSING THE PROBLEM. THE DISTORTION
IS MINOR. THEY ARE FIXING THE PROBLEM NOW. IT IS NOT IN THE RECORDING ITSELF.
