Starting a thread about anticipated shows next year starting in the fall of 2011. I usually am clueless until previews. The only show I know so far is Godspell......what else is coming?
Foxwoods Theatre First Preview: Nov. 28, 2010 Opening: June 14 Director: Julie Taymor and Philip William McKinley Choreographer: Daniel Ezralow Cast: Reeve Carney, Jennifer Damiano, Patrick Page New musical based on the Marvel comic book hero featuring songs by Bono and The Edge with a book by Taymor, Glen Berger and Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa. MASTER CLASS
Theatre: Samuel J. Friedman Theatre First Preview: June 14 Opening: July 7 Director: Stephen Wadsworth Cast: Tyne Daly, Sierra Boggess According to MTC, "Terrence McNally's award-winning play about Maria Callas takes us to one of her famous master classes where, late in her own career, she challenges the next generation to make the same sacrifices and dare to rise to the same heights she did, making her the most celebrated, the most reviled and the most controversial singer of her times."
We know about these two, any speculation about the cast of theaters of the other 25 mentioned productions slated for the fall.
I'm not as up on things as most people here, but the playbill.com list seems like it's missing a few things. For instance, I thought the prospects for revivals of Evita and On A Clear Day... were reasonably firm, but they're not on the list. Maybe someone with more information can correct me.
Thing is Godspell is supposed to go into previews spring/summer of 2011 and NO CAST and NO THEATER have been announced. Shouldn't little details like this have been announced or at least speculated already.
Wasn't Death of a Salesman with Philip Seymour Hoffman talked about? And there is also the show with Samuel L. Jackson (I forget what it's called), and also the one with James Franco/Nicole Kidman (again, title is escaping me), looks like a Hollywood year...wonder what Hunter Foster is thinking...
THE MOUNTAINTOP is the play that features Samuel L. Jackson (Halle Berry dropped out). And the Franco/Kidman collaboration is SWEET BIRD OF YOUTH, but don't know if that's official yet.
Another year goes by and still no FIRST WIVES CLUB...
Last weekend I saw Neil Berg and his Broadway Showstoppers at Queens Theater and he mentioned that his musical, GRUMPY OLD MEN: THE MUSICAL was going to be doing a trial in Canada in October. A few songs from the score were played and they were good.
