what musicals do you hope get nominated for best musical?

The Book of Mormon - which I will be shocked if it's NOT nominated.
"The Book of Mormon - which I will be shocked if it's NOT nominated."
I'll be shocked if Book of Mormon doesn't win. That said, along with Mormon, I think Priscilla and Catch Me if You Can will be nominated. Personally, I'd love to see The Scottsboro Boys and Bloody, Bloody Andrew Jackson in the mix. Unfortunately, I don't see that happening.
Book of Mormon.
My picks for definite nods are Book of Mormon and Priscilla.
Catch Me hasn't gotten very strong word of mouth thus far, however, given its tourability factor, I'd place it in the "highly likely" category.
That said, I have a funny feeling Scottsboro may snag the last spot unless Sister Act gets really incredible reviews. (Don't think 3 of the 4 nominees will be huge shows. I think the pedigree of Scottsboro will also help it-it's Kander and Ebb, after all.)
That said, the other shows to look out for are: Baby, It's You, People in the Picture and the aforementioned Sister Act. (We'll see. I just think Scottsboro's critical reception might help it as well.)
I thought PRISCILLA had a chance till I saw it,
it's fun but not IMO TONY nom worthy.
It's looking better for SCOTTSBORO to get that nom unless PEOPLE IN THE PICTURE takes it.
I stopped having any faith when CRYBABY got a nom over A CATERED AFFAIR.
Catch Me and Book of Mormon are the only two definite noms - Catch Me is my choice to win but something tells me Book of Mormon will probably take it. It's more... original, even if I find some of the humor to be in bad taste. As long as Aaron Tveit takes the Tony for Best Leading (which I actually have a strong suspicion he will), I really don't care that much.
I'd bank on Sister Act getting nominated as well. It may not be the most popular show, but audiences in London have loved it and the score is pretty tight.
Baby and Priscilla both have a decent shot, but neither are particularly appealing to me. Either way, I'm tired of jukebox musicals.
I would NOT bet on Scottsboro Boys or Bloody Bloody. Scottsboro Boys has a better chance than Bloody Bloody, but if it got nominated it would be a pity nom.

I think Catch Me If You Can will end up like 9 to 5 or Legally Blonde. A bunch of nominations but not one for best musical. I do think Scottsboro Boys will be nominated though.
I'm going to have to disagree with you. It's much better than Legally Blonde and 9 to 5 ever were.

book of mormon won't win because it cannot tour.
I'm not saying CMIYC is on the level of LB and 9 to 5 in terms of quality, I'm just saying that everyone expected those two musicals to get best musical nods, and they didn't, and I think the same will happen to CMIYC.
I'm shocked at all the people who are positive Priscilla will get a best musical nom. I think BOM and CMIYC are the lock ins. I think Scottsboro and Sister Act will and should be nominated over PQOTD..... but thats just me.
I think it will depend on the reviews Priscilla gets. I really enjoyed it but I realize it's not a great show. I still think it'll be nominated.
Priscilla
Book of Mormon
Catch Me If You Can
Sister Act (or a possible wild card spot)
I can see 'Priscilla' being this season's 'Rock of Ages', getting a Best Musical nod over shows with original scores...
I'm curious to see how well they do with the critics tonight.

I try not to get too het up about this until it's closer to the time, but, if nothing else, Scottsboro may snag a Tony for Best Musical Score -- for both sentimental and quality reasons.

Physically, yes it can tour, but the content will NOT fly in Middle America.

Middle America still has access to South Park on television and are familiar with Stone and Parker's work. Not to mention a show like Ave Q toured all though the country, including the midwest. Considering I've lived in Missouri all my life, I think it's a little ridiculous how so many people think we're simple little folk that won't get humor of New York shows.

yeah you are right. all those season tix holders that have families are gonna love taking their kids to see the book of mormon. Good call.
I think people might live in their bubble of being liberal while most people in this country call themselves conservative. And being as such, shows like BOM while brilliant and awesome, are not for the general public.
So let's allll just calm down here ok? No one is insulting anyone else or calling anyones mamma fat so before you get all up in arms about me saying that BOM cannot tour, let's look at it logically. AVE q did horrible business on the road. The last show that was risque on the road was Spring Awakening and it doesn't sell either.
yes South Park is in middle america, but the majority of people who LIKE south park are young and don't have the residual income to pay 100 bucks to see a musical of theirs. Just like my broadway preminition. I think the show will sell well for a while, all the people who love the daily show will see it and it will die off. The demographic is too small. It is not a family show (now some 50 yr old will say, "i took my 13 yr old and we loved it). Its a date show, and date shows don't last with big budget musicals because you need groups to come see the show.
You will not get group sales to BOM. You will not get group sales to BOM. You will not get group sales to BOM. Its not going to happen. Again, i think it is far and away the best musical this year. I just dont' see touring presenters seeing the show and think...damn..I can def sell that to my subscribers...
no way..
The four musicals I predict will get a 'Best Musical' nod are:
BOOK OF MORMON (likely winner)
CATCH ME IF YOU CAN
SISTER ACT
SCOTTSBORO BOYS
I don't think PRISCILLA will be among those nominated since there are so many more musicals this season with original scores than there were last year. I'm curious as to how BABY IT'S YOU! will fare because I absolutely adore Beth Leavel and I think she'll definitley be nominated in the Best Leading Actress category. Time will tell...
So unfortunate that BLOODY BLOODY ANDREW JACKSON will likely be forgotten. I thought that show was phenomenal.
Have they officially thrown out "the you can only perform on the Tonys if your show is nominated" rule?
i feel that "People in the Picture" is going to be this years "Next to Normal." just sneaking in before the awards come out...
I want the category to look like this:
Catch Me If You Can
People in the Picture
Women on The Verge
Book of Mormon
But in reality.... Probs this:
Catch Me If you Can
Book of Mormon
Scottsboro Boys
(People in the Picture or Sister Act depending on reviews)
