I wonder who win Best Actor in a Musical, Danny Burstein or Ben Platt? I loved both, and want Platt to win the Tony next year if it transfers to Broadway.

Does anyone know how the process that OCC uses to obtain the nominees? I know that someone invites the critics to a show and that is part of the process. I also see that they have a deadline. However, more details than that are sketchy. Specifically, I would like to know if the Theaters choose which categories the nominees are put in, or do the producers of the show choose, or does the OCC decide who goes where? Do they have multiple rounds of voting where each round reduces the total number of choices or is it mearly a top five of the 80 or so critics? Knowing their methods could explain the "whacky-ness" that we see and why they are so different from the Tony's.

"Please note: Only new elements of Hamilton, Disaster!, and Blackbird, which were eligible in their off-Broadway incarnations, were considered for 2016 nominations. Shuffle Along will be considered eligible in the 2016-17 season."
Were there any new elements of Hamilton for its Broadway run?

Could Jonathan Groff theoretically have gotten nominated? I know his character isn't new, but he did originate the role on Broadway.

ahhh, that's correct, he was the only new element eligible, not sure why it trumped me. Surprised he didn't get nominated!

But he wasn't exactly new since he was in the off Broadway incarnation although he was just a replacement... So I don't know if they would nominate the same role to two different guys in two succeeding years. Has this ever happened before? Where the original off Broadway actor and his/her replacement transferring to Broadway been nominated in succedimg years?

I agree with most of the nominations. Was sure hoping to see Zachary Levi's name on the list. But unfortunately, I did not. *sigh*

How the Outer Critics Circle nominations work: They are made by the Executive Committee. And for the record, they are: Simon Saltzman (President), Mario Fratti (Vice-President), Stanley L. Cohen (Treasurer), Patrick Hoffman (Corresponding Secretary), Joseph Cervelli (Recording Secretary), Glenn Loney (Historian & Member-at-Large), Aubrey Reuben, David Gordon and Harry Haun (Members-at-Large). Their nominations are based on what they see throughout the year, and they determine who's eligible, and which category they belong in. The committee also solicits suggestions from the OCC's general membership, which represents more than 90 newspapers, magazines, radio and TV stations, Internet websites and theatre publications in America and abroad.
The Outer Critics nominations are bound to be different from the Tony nominations because the OCC covers Broadway AND Off-Broadway. And the nominators all try to do their best. It's a thankless task, and no list of nominees ever pleases everyone. ... FYI, I'm an OCC voter, and I'm told that Groff was eligible. (And if I were a nominator, I definitely would've voted for Groff and Levi.)

Talk about prejudices? " Few old white men". One day you will be old and one wonders how you will like being tossed aside by remarks like that. Prejudice on either side is bad but I guess it is now pc to say this.
So sad.

The Outer Critics are always "wacky" because there are no women or men of color on the board.
