This is one of the greatest plays I’ve ever seen in my life. I thought the cast was fantastic, not a weak link in the Steppenwolf actors but I wouldn’t mind if they do stunt casting and gave these to seasoned movie stars. I wish that for this off broadway return they would just have one person playing the lead throughout the run so that they won’t have to have them reading the script from a binder. Edie Falco was sublime when I watched it in its first run but sometimes when she reads the lines from the binder (like in the Encores) it takes me out from scene. Wow. If Choreography would be announced early on at the Tony program, if Schmigadoon wins, Ragtime is taking Best Revival. Haven’t seen Schmigadoon yet but I was floored by Cats choreo. Hoping Cats get some love at the Tony’s besides Costume.

I feel like the Drama Desk is copying a cue from the Oscar precursors where instead of these movie guilds/critics rewarding breakthrough performances they tend to try to give them to people who they think will win the Academy. I mean the winners list look like Tony predictions! I think the four leads for Musical and Plays would mirror the Tony’s and so are most of the technical awards. And I know I’m in the minority but I do like most of their choices.

Oh my God if she would play Violet the family matriarch I would just die! Would Julia Roberts be too old to play Barbara again? We can have a Steel Magnolias mini reunion. Sorry don’t mind me. I am thrilled that The Gospel At Colonus was not forgotten this awards season even though it’s such a small musical in Little Island! I really really love that show and its direction. I would have loved to see Stephanie Berry with a distinguished performance nomination but that maybe asking too much. Oedipus and Sam Tutty were truly a head scratcher. Laurie for the win.

I hate to admit it but I was one of those assholes who wait for some actors who chose not to come out of the main stage door. Before the pandemic I was an autograph hound and waited hours to get those signatures from these actors. In Hamilton some actors come out of the front entrance door in the lobby near the box office. That’s where I got Philippa Soo signature as she steps out of that exit with her bike. Also sometimes the security guard says everyone left already when in fact some actors...
