Correct me if I'm wrong here -- in the past week or so, it has been announced that Hamilton, School of Rock AND Spring Awakening are going on tour in 2017. Isn't this a bit of an overload? Maybe its just me. I really love the fact that they're bringing these three around the country, but isn't it a bit much in one year?
Really? They're not all performing on the same stages at the same time...
Most subscription houses have 6 shows per season, no?
Hedwig is also touring in 2017, starting off in SF in Fall 2016.
Fun home and finding neverland are also starting their tours fall of 2016.

I'm going to assume you must not have followed theater-related news for a few years, because it is not uncommon at all for several shows to launch tours in the same year. And just wait until the awards season heats up this spring-- many more shows will likely announce tours as part of their award campaigns. Having the prospect of a tour courts the out-of-town vote.
Besides-- Hamilton isn't really going on tour in 2017. It's doing a sit-down production in Chicago, which will eventually tour.
And don't forget On the Town for Bernstein's birthday celebration (ok it seems unlikely to me but I hope so)

I have it on pretty reliable word that this tour will not happen. Producers have hemorrhaged too much money with the show on Broadway. Very sad ![]()

There was also the tour of Honeymoon in Vegas with Tony Danza. We had a thread keeping track off all the 2016-2017 tours here a few months ago.

And here is the list as it stood the last time I updated it. I forgot Gigi apparently announced a tour:
With On the Town announcing a tour today, that brings the total up to three officially announced tours that I can think of:
On the Town (w/ Tony Yazbeck)
Finding Neverland
An American in Paris
ETA: The King and I
Curious Incident
Into the Woods
Fun Home
Something Rotten
The Bodyguard
Honeymoon in Vegas (w/ Tony Danza)
Gigi
Rumored/Announced, but not 100% confirmed for season:
Aladdin
Hedwig and the Angry Inch
Les Miserables
Rent

Okay, sorry. I was misinformed. I'm relatively new to all this, but thanks all for the info!
Doubt Dames will tour as they said it would.
Mr Roxy said: "Doubt Dames will tour as they said it would."
People also thought the same for Bullets Over Broadway and The Bridges of Madison County.
The problem is that it needs smaller venues . This show in a normal house will be like a fish out of water. Add to that, less revenue at each stop so it is a bigger gamble.. This does not have the name recognition of the shows you mention.
Has Newsies announced a new tour yet?
Also Hamilton is premiering in Chicago on an open ended engagement and then going on tour.
Will Gigi and On the Town actually go on tour this year or next? There has not been an announcement of any kind.
Whatever happened to that Lord of the Rings tour we were supposed to have last year?

On the Town lost too much money and Gigi is awful.

And now announcement that allegiance will tour nationally--too soon to add to list?
It used to be when a show bombed on Broadway, it was consigned to the scrap heap.
Glad to see that is no longer the case. Good to see quality shows that did not make it on Broadway will have a life on the road

Newsies is starting to do return engagements this summer. They are currently booked until August and some seasons for next year are yet to be announced (meaning that they could pick up a few more dates). I'm not sure if they will close and start a new tour, or just continue the current one.
