Is it silly if you are into musicals to go in 2018 and see broadway?

I'm guessing you mean you are considering coming from out of town? If so, I'd say it is looking like it might be a weaker year for new musicals compared to last.
That being said, The Band's Visit is very much worth seeing, especially as long as Katrina Lenk is still there. The revival of Carousel will likely be great, and I am personally excited for My Fair Lady's return. I am also cautiously optimistic about Mean Girls and Once on This Island.
At this point, not much has opened, so it is tough to say what kind of year it will be.
It's silly to spend the money on a trip/tickets if YOU aren't excited about the shows. I go into the city all the time and sometimes I end up seeing shows that are pretty darn far down my list....but only because I'm jonesin' for a show and see close to everything. If it were a "to do" to have to plan, it wouldn't be worth it

Nah, I've been super into musicals since I was little and finally went to Broadway this year... (saw 11 shows and saw The Great Comet three times)
I'm not very excited about this Broadway season but there's some great revivals! And definitely make sure to visit off Broadway shows! You never know what the next big thing will be.
I started a thread a while ago about shows which left you surprised - shows you really had no intentoin of seeing, but saw it any how (by default?) and surprised you how great it was - for me, it was Tyne Daly in GYPSY (1991). Others chimed in with their responses - and you wouldn't believe the number of people who saw something they were reluctant to see, but were thrilled at the end.
So I would say - be daring, take a chance and see something that you may think is not going to be good such as a 'jukebox' or 'stupid Disney one'. You just may leave the theater singing and dancing all the way back to your hotel.

I am so not excited for this season either. But I will keeping my eyes on Frozen to see if experiencing the beautiful story of sisterhood again in a whole new way is worth the wait.

I have to add - Bernadette Peters in Hello, Dolly! will be top of my list when I visit NYC in spring.

I feel the same exact way. First off, I NEVER expected Mean Girls to be a musical. But with Tina Fey working on the book, I'm giving it a chance. Spongebob was a childhood favorite for me so I'm also giving that one a chance (I'm not a huge fan of the cast recording though). As for Frozen, I'm kind of disappointed they didn't put in the opening number from the movie, but all the other songs are still in there so I will also give that one a chance.
And I know it's early, but here are my early Best Musical and Best Revival predictions:
BEST MUSICAL - Spongebob Squarepants, Mean Girls, Frozen, The Band's Visit (Escape to Margaritaville, if there's a fifth)
BEST REVIVAL OF A MUSICAL - Once on this Island, My Fair Lady, Carousel
Go see The Band's Visit, Once on This Island, My Fair Lady, Carousel, and Hello, Dolly! with Bernadette Peters.
