Posted: 11/28/19 at 9:34amWhy would Mean Girls not feature the Plastics? They rarely do promotionally. They should have just done all of Meet The Plastics instead. Show Renee Rapp, not one of the weakest songs in the show! Ugh.

I think they also have the casts of Spongebob and Summer from Broadway in Philadelphia but that’s it for CBS this year. Yikes.

I thought all the performances were outstanding with the exception of Beetlejuice which was obnoxious beyond belief (as usual).

Loved the Tina performance - Adrienne Warren is destined to be a movie star. I haven't seen the show yet and that made me want to buy tickets. Thought Beetlejuice was fun, but I despise the false rhymes in that song. Hadestown was bland.

I am always impressed by Alex Brightman's TV performances of The Whole "Being Dead Thing. They are personalized to the venue/event every time; and not just a few plug-in words here or there. ...like whole riffs in the verses.
I'm impressed with Brightman's mental agility, and the writers who create the new lyrics.

I agree!! And if the parade performances are still lip synched (right?) he did an amazing job with that too, which is tough with all the wordy lyrics and close-ups!

I noticed and thought about the lip-synching, too!! Hats off to him. It's tough to do!

Yes, all performances at the parades are lip-synched due to sound logistics. That’s why you’ll notice performers are at sometimes a little off as they are lip-syncing to the feedback on location that isn’t properly synched to the camera feed. This was evident during the beginning of the BEETLEJUICE performance.

Loved ATP kicking things off. Actually, for first time made me think I’d want to eventually see this.
Beetlejuice - I admire how they alter their performances to suit the venue, but it feels like diminishing rewards a bit to me.
Hadestown - didn’t really do the show justice as that set is like a character I itself. Plus, Reeve Carney didn’t appear to be performing in character. I know that’s fairly common when shows perform just one song on a TV show. I know some of you aren’t fans of his already. Although I am.
Just watched Tina now. Fun, but other than Warren’s vocals, slightly underwhelming. I have full faith I’ll love the show more when I see it in 7 weeks.
Loved that ET xfinity commercial.

True, but I know I'm not alone in my infatuation, and that all other aspects are forgiven when I say the two magical words: Timothy Hughes
PS: Kudos to Michael Krass (et.al [?]) who made the decision to make his tee just the right length (erring on the short side).![]()

Cant believe nbc plays Kpop and Debby Gibson in full then goes to commercial break during Billy Porter. Par for the course w something like this I guess.

Oh yes, I forgot to mention the tall sexy worker god that is Timothy Hughes.

Another small, but impactful thing I was impressed by: The ensemble ladies in the "Proud Mary" number from Tina...
It's one thing for the star to re-create Tina Turner's iconic choreography with such perfection, but Anthony Van Laast has allowed ALL the ensemble ladies to be Tina in that moment; and each of them executes with the same level of perfection as the star (Ms Warren). Nice. ![]()

"Beetlesjuice" was a hot mess. "Tina" sold tickets. Probably a lot.

I had the complete opposite reaction. I thought Tina was “meh” and as soon as Beetlejuice was finished I said “that’ll sell some tickets.”

I have to give credit to Beetlejuice - whether it pays off or not, they really take every promotional opportunity and run with it, combining the most well-known song (Day-Oh) with a crowd-pleasing group song with timely/relevant lyrics. I can easily recall five Thanksgiving jokes from that song that (funny or not) will be repeated at Thanksgiving dinners all over the country (i.e., if you die during Thanksgiving, you don't have to do the dishes!). That is gold.
