My favorite show, but it's too soon after the most recent revival which I happened to love.
I had no idea that Carolee Carmello was up for Mother in the original production. She would have been wonderful. I always thought Donna Murphy was mentioned for Mother as well (from what I remember when she left the King and I revival).

Will it be revived again? Yes, at some point in the future I would definitely think so. The score has too many fans for some producer somewhere down the line to not be tempted to make it work. But I think that point is many years in the future. At this point, as others have said, it's still far too soon since the last revival flopped so spectacularly for anyone with any sense to try it at this time.

^^^ I'd be interested to see a production where Act I ended with the gang of white men surrounding and menacing Sarah, and Act II began with Sarah's funeral. I'm not at all sure it would work, but it would at least spread the showstoppers over two acts.

Sorry to harp on this, but some posters don't seem to know what belting is. Listen to the YouTube of O'Hara and Pasquale singing "One Second and a Million Miles/Falling". It is obvious to the ear that O'Hara is belting everything but the occasional high note (particularly in "Falling"
. Her transitions are amazingly smooth, but there is a difference.

Not going to happen. It's one of my favorites, but it's too big of a show to pour all that money into for another revival anytime soon. Maybe if some director wants to come in and find a way to make it into a chamber musical, or a celebrity stuntcast like Sunday and How to Succeed, but no one is going to fund a commercial revival full of Broadway stars these days. And the show is 30 years too young to be considered by Lincoln Center.
Come to DC and see the Ford's Theatre production this spring. It's lovely.

Fun fact: according to an interview, Norm Lewis was asked to replace Stokes in the original production, but turned it down, saying he didn't want to do a show about racism. Given that he soon went on to play the role in other productions, it sounds like he just didn't want to be a replacement!

He has a nice voice, but I think Joshua Henry or Norm Lewis would be better choices. Cynthia Erivo would be a great Sarah, but I'm sure that she wouldn't accept. Kelli O'Hara and Danny Burstein would be great as Mother and Tateh."
why don't you think Cynthia would accept? Audra had 2 Tonys when she played Sarah in 1998 so it's not like Tony winners are ineligible.
Kelli would be terrific as mother! I also think Carolee would do great things with it.
Audra had two supporting Tonys. Cynthia won for a lead role and some of the most ecstatic reviews this century. I think she wants a lead role...why go backwards?
