I don't think it will be awkward, atleast it wont be to people who don't get it, like tourists.
But just imagine how small the letters are gonna be...and how a small dispute will come up on how to abbreviate it in everyday conversation

I work on 43rd, they just renamed the part of it between 10th and 11th after a firefighter. Like... a few months ago.
I too want to see how the heck that's going to fit on the little baby street sign they put underneath the actual street sign.

Posted: 7/17/06 at 2:00pmThey did this on my street but one block over in memory of someone on the street who died in the world trade centers. They just put the WAY street sign under the STREET sign and still rfer to it as the original STREET name. So I'm guesing that's what they'll do with this.

Posted: 7/17/06 at 3:15pmWhat will it be called after it closes is such a non-issue because it isn't like anyone will be referring to it as such while the show is still running. It'll still be 43rd between 9th and 10th. I never call the renamed streets by their new name.
