Just spent four highly anticipated days in NYC seeing 5 Broadway Shows...
GOOD PEOPLE - Throughly entertaining, fully realized and funny - this is an exceptional play with an outstanding ensemble. Frances McDormand gives a Tony worthy performance and the show is tightly directed by Daniel Sullivan. Tate Donovan was a revelation. I don't want to give anything away in terms of plot but highly recommend - found it moving and funny - great way to kick off the theater binge. Sat in the first row of the Mezz which was great...
THE BOOK OF MORMON - I'm glad I went into the show not knowing anything - my self imposed media blackout worked and went in not knowing anything about plot ( a challenge for someone who reads the boards and pretty much everything pop culture related) ...and it worked - this is prob the funniest thing I've ever seen - amazing performances and great numbers - with some pretty meaty undertones as well
ANYTHING GOES - Loved the first act, alot. Also my first time at the Stephen Sondheim Theater (really dug the theater) so it made for a special night. I should also preface by saying I had never seen this show before - the classic screwball elements had me grinning from ear to ear...It was in the Second Act after Blow Gabriel Blow that had me itching a little...the sharp wit and old school humor seemed to wain and the ballads just kept going on...and on..and on...All redeemed however by a tidy energetic and grin inducing Finale...Hottest Dancers Btw...I was sort of hoping that they'd end up shirtless.
JERUSALEM - Mark Rylance giving a tour de force performance - the kind of performance that I'll never forget and reinforces the fact that he is, the greatest stage actor of our generation. Riviting dialogue and exceptional cast -- the show really came together for me the Third Act. The crowd on that rainy Sat Matinee went nuts for it. Wonderful direction, use of sound and great set design. I'd recommend, its not a perfect show but its intense, engaging and yeah its 3 hours but it goes by fast and totally engaging.
PRISCILLA QUEEN OF THE DESERT - Tony Shelton was fantastic and the show is alot of fun - Gavin's voice seemed a bit weak tho...and the show seemed not as magical as when I first caught in London a few summers ago...But those costumes, wow...a fun production nonetheless...But it made me wonder how different Sister Act is now from its London incarnation and wonder if I should have seen that instead...

Gavin's voice? Did you mean Will Swenson?
(I've never cared for anything but the music in AG!)
Glad you had a great time!

I was also at the Sat mat of Jerusalem...at first in the box for the first act, then I moved to I think 8th row center for the rest. I totally agree on your assessments... Jerusalem wasn't as tidy as Good People, but just as compelling.
