hey guys
I'm visiting nyc from 2/15 till 2/19. Wanna see 5 shows. What's really must see?
I had 'on the town', 'hedwig', curious incident of dog in nighttime', on the 20th century' in mind.
Somethings else? Happy to hear from you guys

Those are sound choices. Add "Cabaret".

what about a gentlemen's guide to love and murder
i skipped it last year and then it won a tony:)
can't believe that i chose ROCKY over that one :)

I would second Cabaret and would also strongly recommend Gentleman's Guide. I actually saw Rocky and Gentleman's Guide in the same day; I can understand why you'd be kicking yourself for that choice haha.

I also recommend Cabaret and Gentleman's Guide.
Also, John Cameron Mitchell is in Hedwig while you're here, so that's a must-see too.

Yes, definitely either Gentleman's Guide of Cabaret would be fantastic choices. Sounds like a wonderful trip, and I hope you enjoy!

didn't know cabaret as that good,
i saw the sam mendes version a few years ago in holland. It was good but i wasn't impressed.
Also siena Miller will starts as sally bowles. No sure i wanna see her

I saw Rocky in June 2014 and loved it!!! It was only an afterthought
I didn't even see any of the movies. I came back in Aug to watch Rocky
again. Also saw Gentleman's Guide the same weekend and for me
GG was so high pitched and pretentious. Of course this is only my
opinion and it is the minority opinion. So haters don't bash on me now
lol
Enjoy your trip! I didn't like On the Town, thought it was boring and left
at intermission. But the rest of the audience seem to enjoy the show!

Rocky over Gentlemen's Guide! No!!

Cabaret tickets are crazy expensive these days, so I would see Gentlemen's Guide, it's so much fun!

I'd say the few you already have in mind are great choices. I'd add Cabaret as well, but if you are not a fan of the production or the actress playing Sally Bowles, I wouldn't want you to waste your time or money on something you don't enjoy! Maybe Gentleman's Guide instead?

since i plan to see 5 shows i'll try to find discount or see what's on TDF

Oh I'm coming back end of Feb lol!! Will be watching It's only a Play,
Matilda, On the Twentieth Century, If/Then and Wicked (my 5th visit
but a friend wants to c it)
If I knew On the Town was that bad I would have seen
The Last Ship 2x before it closed! Loved that show!!!

Anyone coming to NYC before mid-March and not seeing JCM in Hedwig is doing themselves a monumental disservice... the question isn't even whether to see it once, but "Is once enough?"

If you saw anyone else do it, you didn't see it.

Here would be my order of preference for early mid-March:

1.Hedwig (JCM is awesome. I flew to NYC just to see him in this. Tony winning caliber)
2.Gentleman's Guide (I loved every minute of it. Tony winning caliber)
3.Curious Incident (Extremely creative and interesting ... a real breath of fresh air. Tony winning caliber)
4.Fish In The Dark (who knows how good it will be but I would sit and watch Larry David do almost anything for 2 hours)
5.Matilda (Not just for kids, I loved it. Tony winning caliber)
6.Les Miserables (My favorite musical so I would enjoy a local high school production. Ramin K is fantastic)
7.Honeymoon In Vegas (super fun and light-hearted, a real pleasure to see)
8.The Audience (it should be a Tony winning type of performance from Helen Mirren)
8.King and I (It should be good)
10.Beautiful(Very good. Everyone likes this.)
11.It's Only A Play (I laughed my butt off. Lots of "inside jokes" for New Yorkers and theatre buffs)
12.On The 20th Century (not sure what to expect. I have not been a huge fan of Roundabout productions in the past. With only 5 slots for shows, if it was me I would skip this because there is not a sure thing. Hedwig, Gentleman's Guide, Curious Incident, and Matilda are most sees to me.)

I am not a fan of On The Town. It is a beautiful dance recital with a great band/orchestra playing some nice songs.

The book was non-sensical ... the story and plot were a cluster f--k roundabout to no where.

I appreciate the music, and if you really like dancing you may enjoy it. And I understand the plot and story were not supposed to be the focus, but the story line was so bad and the jokes so lame it detracted from the beautiful music, elegant dancing and the nostalgia the show was trying to capture.

of On The Town...describes exactly how I felt
but I couldn't have said it articulately like you did! :)
