Saw Dear Evan Hansen, Long Day's Journey into Night, Fun Home, Hamilton, Something Rotten, She Loves Me and The Color Purple. We enjoyed each for different reasons. Here are some thoughts.

Dear Evan Hansen--loved the music and thought the story was good.  However, it reminded me of one of those many Disney tv shows/movies where the kids are smarter than the adults who are written as caricatures. (Yes, it may be my age--mid- 50s.) My wife though cried her her eyes out. Feel very fortunate it extended a week so we could see it.  Wish it success in the transfer. Met Joel Grey who was sitting in front of us.

LDJIN-had never seen the play and was wowed by all the actors especially Lange and Shannon. Only incidence of bad behavior. Cell phone rang during Lange's final monologue with about 2 minutes to go.

Fun Home-was blown away. Very lucky to have had tickets the night Kuhn and Skeggs returned.

Hamilton-not much else can be said. I bought tickets back in November for a performance that included a reception with cast. Figured a few members of the ensemble would show up but almost everyone did. Really nice people who seem to be enjoying this time in their lives. Daveed, Leslie and Rory, were especially enjoyable to talk to and Lin couldn't have been more accommodating as he made an effort to get around to everybody before he had to leave.  It was also our anniversary so it was a really special night.

Something Rotten--got tickets at TKTS for Saturday matinee at Seaport Friday morning before 911 Museum Tour.  Really good seats--row J center.  Commented to ticket agent that they must be house seats.  He said he doesn't like to use that term because the "internet goes crazy."  So, I'm not sure what others posted about Times Square location having better seats is true--may just depend on the show. Enjoyed the show very much and glad we got to see most of the original cast, but understood why Fun Home won the Tony.

She Loves Me--knew nothing about the show and enjoyed it very much.  Perfectly cast.

The Color Purple--Cynthia Erivo's "I'm Here" was the single greatest moment of the week.  Ellen Burstyn was in attendance.

Also managed to squeeze in Billy Joel at MSG with some tickets behind the stage (which were perfect.)

Thanks New York!!!

Sounds like a great week.  How did you score reception tickets to Hamilton? Was that on Ticketmaster or some other source?

Have a trip in July.  Originally I didn't have Color Purple on my list but after reviews like this, I may have to.

Dave13, I knew that question would be asked and hate to reveal my source (in case the opportunity comes around again) but here goes.  I was flipping through the Brooks Brothers catalog back in November and noticed they had various experiences to include this one. The date was our anniversary so I dialed the number and was told they had 3 tickets left out of 44 so I immediately booked 2.  They also offered a backstage package for School of Rock.  Tickets for Hamilton were Row A center.  It was a great experience, especially since we paid less than what Balcony tickets would cost on Stub Hub these days.  We bought a poster which the cast members signed at the reception.  Regret not asking for selfies.  At the time, I was thinking "this is happy hour for the cast so don't get too greedy."  I'm sure everyone would have obliged.

Lol....looks like 7 to me!  But what a great line up.  I just caught LDJIN and She Loves Me this weekend myself!

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

You are so right.  So much time in theatres has taken away my ability to do simple math.

What a wonderful week of shows! Just a minor difference in opinion about Evan Hansen. I really didn't feel the kids appeared any smarter than the adults. They all appeared to be just struggling through life, which may have have diminished their judgment at times.
