Mallardo,
I did not hear that it may not come to Bway, but if it were to open in NYC in its present state, it would be crushed by the critics. As I said earlier, it needs work...and a considerable amount of it. (I went through the program today and chose 6 songs that should be cut right off the bat.)
But it's got a great cast and a lot of spirit; clearly it has promise.

I think it needs some tightening, but not any major overhaul before it transfers.
I am not sure I agree that it is in quite the shape that Miss P contends, but it does need to be pared down a bit (especially the first act).

Of course it needs a tightening up and a cutting and thats what they have been doing in LA the last 6 weeks.
It's a pre Broadway try out!
When I was there Saturday we were told that there are some big cuts and changes on paper that will be implemented prior to New York. They are also possibly trying to find another venue to continue previews for another 3 to 5 weeks in Feb/ March time.
April is a long way away!

Huh. I would love to see its next iteration.
Hopefully, it will follow Drowsy and Curtains with a successful (and Tony worthy) NY Run.

Saw the show 2 weeks ago and I really enjoyed it. Met up with Stephanie afterwards and got caught up. She's a dear friend and we've done several shows together. She said that the entire company is going to NYC at the end of January for 2 months of rehearsals before the show opens in March. Cuts and changes are still happening. So, any talk of rumors that the show is not going to NYC is a bunch of bs.
Funny note..........when my friend and I were waiting to go into Stephanie's dressing room, Eden Espinosa was right next to us...waiting to go into Megan's dressing room. Right before that Eden was playing with the fake boobs that Megan wears during the show. She having fun playing with it.

Posted: 10/14/08 at 12:59amThe show will need some changes before it goes to NY- the book, especially needs some work. The show, however, is a critic-proof show. Brantley will hate it (due to its commercialism and Dolly Parton's unfortunate knack for bad rhymes) but audiences will love it-it's a very fun show with an amazing cast, great sets, great choreography and very crisp pacing and direction.

i was also there for that performance. i enjoyed it very much. i thought the sets were very impressive and the details that they put into the design really made a big difference. the performances were amazing, i love the little Wicked line they put in for Stephanie to say- No good deeds goes unpunished.
The music is incredible and the production is top notch. i've never seen the movie, but my friend who had seen the movie said they didn't change much, just minor changes to keep it flowing on stage.
definitely catch it before it closes if you live in LA.

^^ Not only was it there long before, but it's a pretty common phrase. People just think that it originated in WICKED.
It was actually first said (or written) by Clare Booth Luce, who was a pretty interesting woman. The newish movie _The Women_ is based on one of her plays.

and I was sitting next to Pennywise, and in front of youwant, and concour with most said...BUT.....first act is way too long.
It must be shortened.
Camncal, they DID change things, or rather added things that don't need to be there, like the son of Janneys character and her younger boyfriend...frankly neither are needed for the work, and it would shorten it.
And the charcter of Roz needs to be cut down, too much is focused on her.
Everyone was fantastic...and I must say I have rarely met as nice a person as Stephanie. Only three of the six of us knew her, yet she acted like we were all good friends.....what an amazing woman, and stunning to boot.
Megan was also charming but in a hurry.....and she was in a hurry to go outside and see the people who could not get in backstage and sign autographs, etc.
I swear Mark Kudish was cruising me....well, maybe I just want to believe that, but he was also nice and gorgeous.
As mentioned on the other board I've never been backstage before, and really enjoyed my time there. What a great group of people.
I would recommend this show to everyone, and only hope they cut some of the first act.
Of course not knowing Pennywise and you want would even be there made it all the better.

I do believe the "newish" movie The Women was more based on the original movie which was based on her play....except the "newish" movie is a huge pile of doggie-doo compared to the original and should never have been made, BUT.....that is another thread and another story.

That's very cool you guys got to hang out backstage.
I'm going to be so sad to see the show leave L.A. but I'm excited for them to head to b'way and make their mark!
They've got NINE shows this last week and then most of them are heading back home right after... I'm sure they are looking forward to some time off.

I'm going to see it again on Thursday, probably grabbing a Hot Tix for $20 bucks.
I'm starting to get obsessed with "Get Out, Stay Out" and "Shine Like The Sun."
I was talking on Facebook with the guy who plays Josh in the show and he said they haven't made any changes in LA since the show opened.
I'm sure it will change significantly in the move.

You were talking to Van Hughes? cool!!!
enjoyed the show though it does need a slight bit of trimming to the book but it's a fun fun show!
And no one has even really mentioned it but I'm giving a HUGE standing O to Andy Blankenbuehler for his choreography again. AMAZING.
