I love the cast recording and the show so much, it's sad that people don't love it as much as I do.

"It's a fabulous recording."
It really is! "I Just Might" is gorgeous.

Posted: 8/6/09 at 5:04pmI am so upset it is closing. The show needs a second chance : (

Posted: 8/6/09 at 5:05pmI love the show and the recording. I'm sad the show is having such a short life on Broadway.

"I have also met him in person, and I find him to be quite funny actually. Arrogant and often misinformed, but still funny."

Posted: 8/6/09 at 5:08pmI've been listening to it whenever I drive for about two weeks now. There are some real gems in there, despite a few duds.

I completely agree with both of you, CSonBroadway and Wanna Be Foster!
It's such a funny and charming show, that it's truly sad it's having such a short life on Broadway.

No show deserves to die so young.
9 to 5 especially.

Twelve.
The CR Billboard Chart is meaningless.

The CR Billboard Chart is meaningless.
What about the regular Billboard top 200 chart? Debut at 130. Now I know 130 out of 200 isn't normally great, but for a cast recording to get into the top 200 chart is a pretty big deal, right? Or not?

Posted: 8/6/09 at 6:03pmGood for them. Wasn't a huge fan of the show when I saw it, but I did grab a few songs off iTunes.

Number 3 this week behind "Jersey Boys" and "Wicked".
I'm actually surprised "Rock of Ages" isn't doing better. You'd think it might cross over to folk who just love those songs, regardless of whether or not it's on Broadway, but so far, not really.

Posted: 8/6/09 at 8:44pmThanks. Wasn't last week, the first week 9 to 5 was released? That would probably explain why it got to #3.

Posted: 8/6/09 at 8:57pmGiven that most albums on Billboard's Top 200 sell a mere fraction of what they used to, the Top Cast Album chart is a farce. Most new cast albums sell less than 50,000 copies. "Wicked" is an exception. What's a real bummer about the latest chart is that 6 of the top 15 albums are pre-packaged, recycled rehashes of pop catalogues or Disney cartoons. Yep, the Broadway musical is in great shape as an art form. While I'm not a big fan of the show, I'll take "9 to 5" over any of them...any day. Updated On: 8/6/09 at 08:57 PM

According to Soundscan figures it sold 3,300 copies in its first week. Many of those were pre-orders.
The top sellers on the BB cast albums chars usually sell 3-5 K a week. The ones in the middle between 500 and 1,000 units Those in the lower third less than 500 a week.
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com
