I'm sure someone on this board will know the answer to this one. Both Sunday's Times and Playbill.com are listing April 30th as the opening for 9 to 5 and Waiting for Godot. Since both of these are major openings, I would doubt that both of them would have their official openings on the same night. Can anyone clarify this?
They are opening on the same night.
9to5 chose the date that Godot already had, Godot refused to move, so they're both opening on the same night-
This week the producers of “9 to 5: The Musical” announced that the long-awaited Broadway show, starring Allison Janney, Stephanie J. Block, Megan Hilty and Marc Kudisch, and adapted from the 1980 film and the infectious Dolly Parton song, would open on April 30 at the Marquis Theater.
Just one problem: that was the same date that a long-awaited revival of “Waiting for Godot,” starring Nathan Lane and Bill Irwin, had already confirmed for its opening at Studio 54.
Now the two shows are on a collision course, and neither plans to blink, even if it means reduced attention for both productions.
Shows Collide; Which One Will Blink?
Why can't one just move?

Well, if the double opening is going to happen, I can just see the reactions if 9 to 5 is well-received and Godot is not (remember, it's Roundabout). The snob hit audience will be bemoaning the philistine taste of the "masses" and the musical's zealots will decrying the snobism of the Godot defenders. I'm prepared for a lot of name-calling and mud-slinging come May 1st.
That's also the cut-off date for the Tonys, so both productions are just giving themselves as much time as possible to get things right.
I doubt 9 to 5 will suffer any reduced attention. Roundabout hasn't put on a great show in awhile.
My first though at reading this thread title was, "How the hell are 9 TO 5 and WAITING FOR GODOT related in any way?"

It's like Bride Wars, only less gay!

Silly question. They start waiting for Godot at 9 and at 5 they're still waiting!!!

Probably the best show in recent years was their Sunday in the Park with George and that wasn't a home-grown product but a transfer from an already-tested production from England. The last decent home-grown show was Assassins, but what s___t we've be subjected to since.

Uh...
39 Steps and....Pajama Game.
Never mind, you're right.
Well The 39 Steps was a transfer also. I have hopes for Birdie.
Yup...39 came from Boston. (Not too often that we can brag about something like that.)
haha true, but it transfered from the West End.
