Anyone else catch the interviews on Playbill Radio?
Here are some things I thought might be of interest to share:
•There is a song between Allison and Stephanie that is like a "list song" when Violet is showing Judy around the office.
•Allison also has what Patricia refers to as the 11 o'clock number called "One of the Boys" where she dreams about being the first female CEO. Big production number, chorus boys and all.
•One of the differences from the movie is that in the show, Violet has a love interest.
•"Get Out and Stay Out" is Stephanie's big number where she's kicking her husband out. She describes it as a 5 minute marathon... her "release" song that Marc says he's scared for the men in the audience to hear.
•One of Mr Hart's songs is about his longing for Doralee. He has another song named "Mundania" that he sings while he’s tied up about how mundane his life is.
•Megan talked about and sang a few lines from "Backwards Barbie" (accent is sounding good!)
•Marc and Stephanie also talked about how the songs are written unapologetically and boldly and fit very specifically for the character and the time it was written for. Marc says this lets the audience see how far we've come in the office place and, in certain respects, how we haven't moved forward at all from the pre-sexual harassment era.
•They also mentioned how the time card clicking and tick tocking of the clock that you hear in the beginning of the title song is a theme carried throughout in the rhythm of the show.
The last thing I'll add is how absolutely everyone couldn't say enough about Dolly. Patricia said something to the effect of "she is the template for what famous people should be like" which I thought was an amazing compliment. The cast's reactions to having her help them with their songs were very funny... something like, "ahhh, we're singing harmony with Dolly Parton!"
