I saw this at City Center yesterday, which was the first preview. I, and the person I was with, both thought it was an awful play. It has one gag that runs the whole show. It grows pretty tedious after about ten minutes. It's almost an absurdist style play.
It was mildly funny and thankfully short at 75 minutes. There were a few people that left in the middle of it! Maybe they had some other issues that made them leave. The lady next to me was sleeping. It's highly stylized direction. The actors give it a go, but it's really tedious. It's presented by The Woman's Project who usually do wonderful productions. Well.. it's actually a great production of a very annoying piece of theatre.
So after all that I came home and googled it. Apparently it ran last May and got RAVE reviews. Picked by the Times as Critics Pick. I think I am a pretty good judge of theatre. I know it just opened, but I'd love to hear other people's thoughts on this.

I thought it was fantastic until the end. What's the deal with that ending?
I saw this last night and thought the end was the only good part. Well the first ending with the babies, not the ending with the grandparents. The rest was grating and boring. As the OP said, the sporting even gag gets real old real fast. If I had been on the side closest to the door I would have left.
On a related note, why did the Women's Project move theaters? Didn't they use to be at that theater across from the dance studios?
