A Casino in Times Square?

Aug 15, 2025 — 1:40:55 PM

Much of the Broadway Producers are putting on Broadway look like insipid Las Vegas Shows, They created this environment. Broadway IS becoming tacky and like Vegas, so why are they complaining when a Casino comes in?

This sounds like Strange Loop all over again. I haven't been back to PH since Strange Loop and I am not going back. As a gay man, I found Strange Loop horrendous. This sounds even worse.

The next Desiree should be Nicole Scherzinger

You don't understand what theatre is about at all. What a silly thing to write. It takes place in Sweden. You can twist yourself into a pretzel to prove otherwise, but it sounds really dumb. Write more plays for people of color. That is the answer. Explore the black experience in new ways!Gypsy is miscast. Mama Rose would have had a ENTIRELY different experience if she was black woman in Vaudeville with a black daughter and a white partner. THAT is just fact. And to deny the REAL experience b...

Yes, and it Hamilton was specifically written to be cast the way it was, and it works. Now, take Hamilton and cast it with White people and it would be awful. The original intent of the author matters. We are all in theatre to serve the words and the play.

It's not "loosely based in Sweden" Jackass. It IS in Sweden.I don't believe in blind casting. I cast to serve the piece. I wouldn't cast a person of color as Desiree anymore than I would cast a whilte person as Effie in DreamGirls. Blind Casting exists to capitulate to actors who complain they aren't able to play a role. It doesn't serve the play, it serves the ego of actors.Write more plays for people of Color. Purpose was fantastic! Don't try to take a white experience and turn it into a bl...

2025 Tony Awards Reactions Thread

Jun 9, 2025 — 2:11:06 PM

Oprah was only there to stir up trouble. Shame on her. The "feud" between Patti and others should have never been brought up. Oprah thought she was going to show up to hand the award to Audra. Producing Two Broadway shows is not a great contribution. There are dozens of Producers who have done more.

my best and worst

My Bests and Worst Moments.Best:Audra Finally belting! I am a voice teacher. I have been saying since the beginning that Audra is able to belt, she is choosing not to, or she doesn't know how to. I know that sounds crazy, but I have seen it so many times. Very Legit female singers are often told from an early age to never belt and they are scared and afraid to do it. It's a real thing.HamiltonCynthia was charming and much funnier than I expected her to be. NicoleClosing number (not the openin...

I am embarassed for almost every character in this horrible story. This is not the Theatre World I want to be a part of. This is not the Community it was 40 years ago when I came here. Everyone should be ashamed. No one looks good. Broadway looks awful. Ill continue to support the shows I want to see and screw the rest of it.

FLOYD COLLINS Reviews

Apr 22, 2025 — 3:19:13 PM

I saw this about ten days ago. I can't imagine they changed that much from then until now. Most of what I am going to write is about the NY Times review. This is a show every person who loves and "studies" Musical Theatre should see... regardless of it's flaws this is must see. It's an intellecutal, dense piece which requires the audience to come prepared. It's sometimes difficult to sit through... and some times it's sublime. The word the reviewer in the Times used. I believe. Of often do you ...

FLOYD COLLINS Previews

I totally agree about Jeremy Jordan. His performance is really wonderful in Floyd Collins. I think this role will elevate his career. He has found material equal to his immense talent. He is going to be a great leading man. I also agree that the show fits beautifully in the theatre.

I just got back from the Matinee.Wow. I have never seen a production or heard the score. I am a big fan of Light in the Piazza so I was really looking forward to it. I thought it was sublime theatre. It is very dense musically and dramatically. I can see why some people are not going to like this. It's not easy to sit through. It exists to tell a story. It's not there to "entertain" in the usual sense. Jeremy Jordan is such a great performer. He should have won the Tony for Newsies. He deserv...

Liza: A Truly Terrific Absolutely True Story - Official Trailer

Mar 18, 2025 — 10:15:44 AM

I learned a lot about Liza by watching this. I thought it was very interesting. Liza never really opens up about her relationship with her Mom. The "real" story. She is coy about somethings. Michael Feinstein says iin it that Lize is never going to "dish" about her real relationships with other Celebs. I did wonder when this was made. Some of the people look much younger than they do now... John Kander is now in his mid 90's. He looks like he is in his 80's here. Chita, god love her, looks li...

Samuel D. Hunter's Grangeville at Signature Theatre

Feb 23, 2025 — 1:35:35 PM

I saw this on Wed Matinee. It was wonderful. Samuel Hunter certainly knows how to write a play. I enjoyed Paul Sparks much more than I liked Brian J Smith. It's surprisng to me that Brendon Frasier would have played the Paul Sparks part and not the other part. It's 90 minutes. Very intersting if you listen. The scene in the dark didn't bother me as much as others. It's not that long and soon forgotten. I enjoyed it very much. The audience was another subject. It was a matinee and full of older...

NYT: Why ‘Show Boat’ Is America’s Most Enduring, Unstable Musical

Jan 12, 2025 — 2:15:29 PM

wearing a sash that says "Whiteness" is about as close as you get to reverse racism as possible. It's as offensive to me as Blackface. Theatre has become a joke. It's not about telling the story the author wrote anymore... Colorblind casting was begun by actors who want jobs. Nothing more. If colorblind casting works so well... can I do an all white cast of a August Wilson play? I should be able to. It's colorblind. The author is the KING of any production. NOT the actor and their desires. Ev...

Linda Lavin passes away,

Dec 30, 2024 — 5:02:39 PM

When people start a post about people who have died, can we be a little more demure? LINDA LAVIN DEAD AT 87 sounds awful and disrepectful to me. Can we just say "Linda Lavin passed away today"?

How to get into Candide?

Dec 30, 2024 — 1:12:18 PM

This is just my opinion. i have seen Candide a few times. Yes it is very flawed and breaks the number one rule of theatre... it's incredibly BORING. There is some wonderful music in the score, that is for sure. Much of it. All I can do is wait for Make Our Garden Grow. Glitter and be Gay is long and a bore. It's not funny after hearing it 1000 times. Its like sitting through Adalaide's Lament once again. A 8 minute bore.
