It makes me sad I probably won't see this.
So, the tour went non-eq from the looks of it...

The tour is still Equity. There are numerous bios with Broadway credits, as well as some holdovers from the first tour cast.
So I know nothing about ACL, but saw this tour a while back. There are 30 in the cast, including swings, but only 17 at the audition. A bunch of people are cut after the first number and don't return for the rest of the show. SO question: Are the people that are cut only cast in those roles for the first number? Are they the swings? Can someone explain beyond the 17 in the audition, what happens with the rest of the cast?

They understudy the lead roles. They also remain in the wings after they are cut and supplement the vocals.
ACL2006, I remember your sig used to list a stop in New Brunswick in March. Did that fall through?

No, it didn't, and, no, it doesn't.

I hope the fact that the last listing is Sacramento means that future dates in SoCal are on the horizon. Haven't seen the tour, but saw the revival in NYC, and wouldn't mind seeing it again. At all.
In regards to New Brunswick, NJ - the State Theater has already announced it's "Broadway" line-up until May and A Chorus Line isn't on their list(yet The Wedding Singer, Porgy & Bess, & Jesus Christ Superstar are). There's still a two week gap to fill in the schedule(March 23 - April 4). I'm also hoping that the tour continues past Sacramento and makes it's rounds back east and lands in New Brunswick myself. It's only 15 minutes from me. There's still big cities the tour hasn't stopped in yet(New Orleans, San Antonio, Montreal, Salt Lake City, Birmingham, etc.).
And despite holding a non-equity call, the tour only took Equity people anyway.
