Re: A Few Good Men - Rest of the Cast?

So I got my ticket for previews and am thinking about watching the 1992 film adaptation, how similar is it to the original stage show?

The most famous line (“You can’t handle the truth!”) is in the movie and not the play; at least the published script. Otherwise, it’s exactly the same. I wouldn’t be surprised to see the line added to this revival, though it threatens to garner applause at a moment when there should be a chill.

I recently reread the script and the iconic line “You can’t handle truth” was definitely there

And I cannot wait to hear how Bradley Whitford delivers that line!

Edit: I stand corrected. I went back and looked at my old script and it’s in there, but it does play out a bit differently in the movie. Mainly that Tom Cruise prompts the line with “I want the truth,” to which Jack Nicholson replies “You can’t handle the truth!” and launches right into his monologue.

I misremembered it mostly because my high school theater director deliberately took the movie script for that moment so Jessep could deliver the classic line instead of what’s actually written, which is much chillier: “You can’t handle it, son. You can’t handle the truth. You can’t handle the sad but historic reality.”
